The disciples were already freaked out enough by the storm. I think Jesus showing up as a dolphin would have sent them over the edge. Plus, Jesus didn't shape shift. You're thinking of the alien bounty hunter from The X-Files. Also, I don't know that the disciples would have had a frame of reference for a dolphin. And it's a lot cooler for a human to walk on water than a fish to swim out to a boat.

I could have been the receeding waters after an earthquake had struck just before a Tsunami hit the beach. That area of the world is seismically highly active. Many myths in the Bible can be contributed to actual normal movements of the earth which were not understood at the time, such as the parting seas, Jesus walking on water (come on give us a break already), the great flood.

T here are a few reasons. The sea is an allegorical symbol for hell. Jesus showed his dominion over it. When peter asked Lord if it be you , bid me to come and Jesus said come and Jesus walked on the water, until he saw how loud the wind blew he was afraid and began to sink.
Jesus said , Oh thee of little faith , why did you doubt ?
There are lessons here. To keep our eyes on Jesus. To no as he had said that we would do greater things. Bringing the chosen into a knowledge of the Christ.

It's just the way he rolls, man...
Just kidding. Jesus walked on water to come and join his disciples who were fishing on rough seas. The act showed his power over the earth.
Interesting, that one disciple come out to walk with Jesus and meet him on the water. The disciple sank into the water, in rough and dangerous seas, but not all the way. Jesus kept his head above.
Jesus will always be there to hold our heads above water in the trials of this evil world. He will hold us and calm the seas.
Just the way he rolls, man...

It seems a whole lot easier to simply walk on water. He was a man on this earth living as we live. He needed to get to the boat with His disciples, so He walked on water. It's certainly better than swimming all the way there.

It was simply to strenghten their faith that he was indeed who he said he was. I have also seen documentaries about the parting of the red sea. Where it said that the water would recede and a sanbar was visible. Well if that were the case then God was even greater than I believed. He drowned Pharoahs whole army in only a few feet of water.

He was showing Peter that he was God. By walking on water, he wanted Peter to be left without any doubt whatsoever that he was God and if he couldn't walk on water then he wouldn't have absolute authority over the heavens and the earth/

He actually walked on frozen ice water. Though it was a lake, the lake was frozen and Jesus walked on the ice. This appeared as if he had walked on water. Ever since then, all others also started walking on frozen lake, etc.

That could be symbolic showing he had risen above the emotional plane, that watery fluid astral realm, and was able to stand above it instead of being immersed in emotion as many are.
