All right, I guess I need to spell this out. See the question above. That's what I'm looking for the answer to, not what the festival is about. I know that. If I wanted to know what Oktoberfest was, I would have asked that question. For the guy who told me to stop "pretending to know things," I'm just looking for an answer of why because of the similar sounding words of "Oktober." If I knew more, I wouldn't be asking the question. No need to be such a condecending ******.

Just to add a point at to this question, at one time during the Middle Ages, and the use of the Julian calender, the beer had to ferment and be ready to drink in about 30 days, thus it had to be made a month in advance of the festival to be celebrated during the month of October.

Now a days with modern beer production and as one person commented the weather now has a big issue, if your want to visit Oktoberfest in October, try the 10 day festival in Kitchener-Waterloo Canada, it is the second largest celebration next to Munich in the world, and much cheaper to get to.

It's always set up so the climax is the first weekend in October. But everyone has such a good time that the partying has been gradually extended earlier, and now it takes in the previous two weekends. So you get a two week party, with three weekends in it for a really great time!
