I have always picked up trash. I made the mistake when I was little and threw a bubble gum wrapper on the ground. I got my butt beat and was made to pick everything up in the whole area. I never threw something on the ground again. I have some people who live across from me, and I caught their eldest daughter throw a burger king cup on the ground. I approached her and made her throw it in the garbage can at the park. She then took it out and was digging with it and left it on the ground. Again. I approached her at her house that time and asked to speak to her mother, she broke down in tears. I was not yelling, she was a child and did not know any better. So i gave her the cup to throw away, and she did. Her mother was standing at the door the whole time listening to me. An hour latter she comes over to my house and yells at me for yelling at her daughter, and proceeded to tell me how no one cares about a little garbage being thrown on the ground. ( we are sure that they are Mexican immigrants, the father doesn't speak English, and the mothers English is very bad.) I told her that I care and that as a child I learned not ot litter. She than told me again that everyone litters and that no one cares. I told her if no one cared how come I did? She didn't have anything to say to that. She than started cursing at me in Spanish and stormed off. People suck.

Unless it's gross or rotted, I pick it up and throw it in the barrel along the street. I think we are all getting better at this. I live across the river from NYC and I've seen a difference.

It all depends on what type of garbage it is. I don't pick up dead animals, nor do I pick up anything that might have human bodily fluids on it. A piece of paper is a different matter entirely. I will pick that up.

Since there are trash cans on street corners here, I'll leave it alone, but I'd never add to it.

I don't like to take on causes, but I hate trash as well. I think it is okay to leave it as long as it doesn't pose an obvious danger to yourself or others. And that goes for picking it up as well.

I leave it unless I'm in a garbage-picky-up kind of mood.

I hate litter, but I hate germs more. I leave it where it is -- but I glare at it a lot.
