Ummmmmm---I doubt if any of us will be around in 20005! Okay, I know that was a typo. But seriously, I wouldn't have any idea. Just guessing, I'd say there were more hip and knee replacements, as these joints seem to be particularly vulnerable to injury or wear and tear. In fact, I don't think I've known of any complete shoulder replacements. I can't think of the name of it, but there is a rather common shoulder surgery -- not a replacement.

I can give you a little info... but not for the year 2005 but for the year 2001, total hips in the US 165,000, total knees 326,000. I am not sure about the shoulders but recall something like 28,000 in the year 2005. I have had two hip replacements, and two hip revisions (revisions are replacements of a hip replacement) two knee replacements and one shoulder replacement this past March. So anyway I saw the shoulder replacement number somewhere in my info but can not locate it now but that number comes to mind. I started young and am still in my 50s with a few joints to go. :) Talk about setting off airport security. Also, I think that the number of hip replacements is lower than knees is because so many people already have them.

When the year 20005 comes neither one of us will be around to care about this bit of trivia.
