Injured birds must be kept very warm. Place him on some clean towels in a plastic storage box, on top of a heating pad set on the absolute lowest temperature. Keep him safely about a foot under a flexi-neck desk lamp with a 60 watt bulb. Don't handle him very much. Immediately contact a professional. Sick birds become dead birds quickly.

Call the local 24 hour veterinary clinic and ask for advice. There will almost certainly be someone who will treat or care for this bird, but if there isn't, you'll find helpful advice and possibly local aid here:

There's a wildlife rescue near you somewhere. Enter "wildlife rescue" and "(place you live)" in your browser and you'll know who to call. Leave a message if they aren't there, and call again first thing when they open.

I know you want to help and you're doing the right thing. Don't feel too guilty if the bird doesn't make it, but don't give up on him. He very well could. Give him a few millileters of warm pedialyte through a dropper every hour. You can also offer him warm baby food. Make sure you stir it evenly if you put it in the microwave (not recommended), because it will contain random hot spots which will burn his crop and send him into further shock.

When you feed him, it is very important that you hold the dropper in the right direction. Otherwise, he will drown on the food. His crop is on his right and his lung is on his left. If he's facing you, hold the dropper in your right hand, and aim it through the open side of his beak on your right, and empty the dropper very slowly against the inside of his beak to your left. Allow him time to swallow it. He may pump against the dropper. Be prepared to move it quickly away from him. He could injure himself by swallowing it.

Good luck.

Look the bird over very good. See if you can see any holes in the skin. If there are not any you might be able to keep it warm for a little while and leave it alone to its self. This will allow it to recupe and then you can let it go if it can fly. If not you may have a house guest for a little while. Damp bread or cat food is about all you can feed it. do not give it water and for sure no milk. It will get the water from the damp bread.

If the bird has holes in it or scraches you might go ahead and kill it. It will most likely die anyway. Not much you can do for it.

Pet the cat for doing a good job of hunting and bring home food for you to eat. Your cat really thinks it is brought you a gift. This is what cats do.

Now if you have an inside bird and the cat tries to attack it you might want to puinsh the cat with a spray bottle or something to let him know it is yours and not his. My cat respects my house birds but knows it can catch anything outside he wants. And he is good at it.

If it's been scratched by the cat it'll end up dying. Feed it bird seed from the pet store.

Contact a wildlife rehabber in your area and drop off the bird. It is very hard to sucessfully raise an injured bird. It`s also the best thing you could do.

Can the bird fly? If it cannot fly, it will probably die.. Is it a big or baby bird? If it can fly.. then return it to the yard and perhaps it will fly away
