What is really fun for kids and adults is to go outside or else somewhere in the country and search for some good sized rocks. Get some paints and some of those little giggly eyes and make some rock creatures. It is a lot of fun for kids and it helps them be creative. Praise there work, even though it may not be the greatest. ON the other hand, it may be better than yours. :)
You can always buy one of those race cars that come in a box and you have to put it together. You can each have your own car to put together and help each other along the way. After your each done, you will have cars to play with. They are boys so seeing a car they had actually made will give them a since of pride in themselves. It will also make the three of you closer.
Hope my suggestions weren't to lame.

A really great fort in the backyard would be something most cool and what child doesn't like his own "house"? Ask family or friends if they have any scrap wood, brick, etc. lying around they would like carted off and even enlist the children in doing that. Instilling pride in a child is a great thing. Plus, it can be an ongoing project that lasts as long as you like. Keep adding to the play fort. Even take time to design it. Be sure and have fun with your boys. Cook good food, let them get plenty of rest so that they get up in the mornings happy and get out and play hard with them. ( I've been a div. parent.)

Go to a Michael's and look for different things you can do -- you can pick the price (making stained glass, sand art, etc.) and kids that age get bored and can't do complicated things and get frustrated. Also, they never want to stop until it's finished and are disappointed when it takes a while to do something. I tried to paint a stool with my kids and they couldn't stand that the coats had to dry and even though I used a fan to speed it up, they got bored.

I have a 6 and 8 year old and I go to Michael's for ideas. They sell machines that you put paper on that twirls really fast and you drip paint on the paper while it spins and it makes cool designs -- there are tons of things to do. Your $100 will be better spent on a lot of things instead of one big project at this point in their life.

Have fun!!

What about a garden? A rock garden, this is manly and it can be done in 1 weekend. Or a tropical garden, with elephant ears, hostas, cattails, and a rock border.
The rock garden is really good because there are no plants that have to be kept alive.
If you go with plants get the kids to agree on the same plant so if one doesn't survive, then one of them isn't disappointed; or you choose the plants and let them design the layout.
In the summer you could plant a vegetable garden.
Go Dad ! Hope you guys have lots of fun.

You could not go wrong with a science museum membership. There is usually a special area for young children that is hands on. I am not sure were you live but a family membership to our local museum is under $100 a year. The exhibits are always changing and we never seem to run out of things to see or do when we go. It is educational too!

How about a castle? You can build a castle with sugar cubes and spray it so it won't get eaten by bugs, and then they can add to it when they visit and you can read stories and watch movies with castles, so they can get ideas.

Also, you could write a story together and work on it when you are together, and they could draw pictures, etc. Then go to Kinkos and have it bound or find a kit that does that -- here is one at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0963679600?v=glance.

You could build mouse trap race cars:www.docfizzix.com/

Also, you could make a miniature golf course and that would be fun, but it might be expensive. It would be fun in the summer though.

check out a pre-fab recycling depot in your area and go collect your wood for your go-carts or bird-houses, feeders. If you live in a house, find a couple sturdy trees out back and build a tree-house.
Boys around 6-7 love in-line skating or rollerblading. I know I have three boys, youngest 5 1/2, oldest 9 yrs.

I would suggest model rockets, they take 1-2 days to build based on difficulty and they're lots of fun to fire off.

I vote for a home-made pinball machine. Lots of room for creativity there, and used surplus buzzers, bells and springs are cheap.
