I got a burn about the size of a biscuit (only rectangular) on the side of my calf from a motorcycle exhaust pipe. It has been seven days and still really hurts. It did not blister, but the skin took this long to fall all the way off. It is now raw skin, that is super sensitive and throbs when I walk the stairs, get up in the morning, etc.

I have been cleaning it with soap once a day, as well as dressing it twice a day with clean, large bandages, Neosporin, and peroxide.

Any other suggestions as to how to heal this?

Is this too many days for a burn (should it be further in the healing process by now)?

Thanks so much.

That is so-o-o painful. You should have seen a doctor - it has gone too long. There is something it the drugstores called "Second Skin". You might want to check into that too. It heals very quickly, but you might have an infection. I don't think you should be cleaning it with soap every day, because you are going to keep irritating it. If you don't see a doctor, either get the Second Skin if you can, or get a tube of antibiotic ointment [no peroxide either for a burn] and apply that to the bandage and then just changed the dressing once a day.

At this point in time, I would have a doctor look at it. Be certain you have not developed an infection. There is a product out, I believe it is called "New Skin" that you can buy over the counter in a drug store, but it may be too late to use it now, but I would ask the pharmacist anyway. It is a patch that you put over the burned area and it helps the skin to heal much faster and better, and, it helps to relieve the pain. I ride a bike also and I keep a package of that in my storage area all the time.

You could go to the doctor.

My husband got a really similar burn and would not go to the ER. It was on a Saturday and our family physician was not available. I cleaned the burn with betadine and then smeared aloe from the aloe plant on it 3 times a day. When he finally went to the doctor on Monday the doctor was amazed at how well it was healing. Really, aloe from an aloe plant NOT the stuff you buy at the pharmacy.

Keep the soap away from it. Keeping the bandage off would be good cuz every time you take the bandage off it rips the skin off with it.

The cream we use in the ER is called Silvadine. You can goto a pharmacy and pic up "burn cream" its about the same thing. Your gonna have a scar. Make sure you wash it with soap and water every day. Look for signs of infection. Redness around the burn that gets worse. Red streaking up your leg. If you get any of those you need antibiotics so goto your doctor.

Yea, what you're doing is good, but you may need to do more, like go to a doctor, or get some sort of salve that is specific to burns. You probably got a good second degree burn, so you just putting Neosporin on it probably isn't enough.

It seems to be healing a little slow considering the size, if you have the money you might go to a "Check-Med" or calling an "Ask-A-Nurse" if there is one available in your area, call Free Information at 1-800-373-3411 and they should be able to tell you. Good Luck.

I got a similar burn like you describe from a motorbike exhaust. You may need an anitbiotic to help the healing on its way and stop infection. They can be very nasty so I think I would see a doctor.

ok......Clean the wound with dial antibacterial liquid soap, foam it up ...rinse with warm water, then cold water....then apply aloe vera plant or buy some aloe vera gel .
Your best bet is aloe vera plant...put on the burn and cover til heals...this will instantly stop the pain and heal fast.
