Ok our dog got spayed 5 days ago, and the stitches are bio-dagradabel?! the vet said they would go into the skin or come out when ready. We just went out to eat and she had 4 stitches, we just came back and now she has 3. she has definatly ripped one. she dosent want to lay down, keeps trying to lick herself, and the skin is sticking out more than its suppose to. she is going to the vet on tue. but we were wondering can she die if she has ripped one? i mean her whole stomach isnt hanging out, and it was only one stitch, but still. It dosent look very pretty. Can she get really hurt? Or will she be ok for another day. shes going in on tue morning early to go see them and she's resting right now in the laundry room.
anyway sry we are kind of freaked out and dont know what to do! thanks
well its been about 20 min. now and the stitches look wet as if its been leaking, so not too good!

When one of my dog was a puppy she had to have hernia surgery and she did the same thing. I called the vet in a panic and she told me to use super glue or the liquid skin on it. It does work and I have since had to use it again on our male who had to have his leg sewn and ripped his stitches out. If she is really active you might even have to tape it as well as use the liquid skin, that is what I had to do with our male and he is fine now.
Good luck!

More than likely they are wet because she is licking them. She has 3 layers of sutures so don't worry about anything falling out. What you see are her skin sutures. She may need a staple put in depending upon how large the gape is. This can be done with no anesthesia. They put them in with a skin staple gun so no point in using needles to numb it first as that's just more sticks. For now please put a T-shirt on her and try to keep her from licking. If you have a petsmart close by go get an elizabethan collar (looks like a lampshade) make sure it extends out past her nose. This will keep her from licking it. The worst she can do is get the rest of the sutures out but the more she licks the angrier the incision is going to look. Give her 1mg per pound of benadryl to help with the itching which is what caused her to lick them in the first place. As it heals it itches. This will also help calm her down. Call your vet if she won't leave it alone and they will tell you where to go to get a collar or they may want to see her.

Call your Vet-if closed -the recording will give the number to call in case of an emergency-they can advise you what to do as can the ASPCA pr any Emergency Vet Clinic-open when regular Vets are closed een on holidays. I'd call right away but were it my pet would take her to Emergency Vet Clinic for they Can either put this cone shaped thing around her neck so she cannot reach that area to lick and Most Important make sure area is not infeccted. Do this right away for if infection sets in can be serious for the dog and costly for you. Whenever you have a pet please do not waste time and going online-CALL YOUR VET for HELP.

Try putting some Neosporin on the stiches. My dog ripped one or two when she was spayed and was ok. I think she would be fine until tomorrow, but I'm no vet. They could be wet cause she's been licking them.

Try to clean it for her (if she'll let you). There's a chance for infection...but she should be okay until the morning. If it looks worse, call the vet; due to the holiday, I don't know if you'll be able to get a hold of anyone. Since it's been five days, she is well on her way to healing. Don't panic; she'll be fine.

I would take her to an emergency vet asap. And to get her to stop licking the stitches, you can get one of those "elizabethan collars" at a store like PetSmart for her. I hope she feels better soon.
