Very similar or indeed exactly the same as having one of those imaginary friends that young children often have?
Is praying to a deity expecting an imaginary friend type of entity to fix up your problems rather then facing up to them and dealing with them in a rational manner? Is this not childlike and naive?

In purely practical, rational terms, when I tried living the kind of life you are advocating, my life was hellish. When I got saved, things improved dramatically. Try Chrisitianity and I doubt you will be disappointed. Try reading CS Lewis' Mere Chrisitianity as an introduction. Oh, and don't judge Chrisitianity by the people you meet who call themselves Christian, because meeting the standard of Christ is very difficult for most people. I suffered through 24 years of atheism until I met a real Christian. When I finally met him, I can only describe it as MUCH more powerful that falling in love. Total awe. All I could think is, how do I get what this guy has?

No it isn't the same at all, if anything God helps us to face problems and go thru them and not run from them. If we run from them, He will usually have us face them in another way. He is our Father and we are His children. He treats us like a Father to children, He helps us with things, but He doesn't take them away.
As a Christian I can tell you that you grow in many ways, because it's all about learning, and changing for the better, and this is hardly ever the easy road. Try changing behaviors you've had for 50 years alone, it's alot better with God changing us from the inside out, but it's usually very, very difficult to let go. No, being a Christian is not the easy way, and we don't get things "fixed" for us, we get help when we need it, and that's nice!

Yes. Not only is it childlike and naive..it retards our society. There are people in ghettos all across the world who rather than do things to help themselves get out of their situation, just leave it up to god to help them..and guess where they still are and will remain to be unless they do something for themselves? These people often live horrible lives and they are OK with that because they think this life is just a dress rehearsal for the next more important one. It is truly tragic. These people waste away their lives because of their stupid beliefs.

Consider in Hurricane Katrina the people who stayed in town because they thought god would protect them. You don't hear from these people.. why? Because they are dead as a result of their silly beliefs.

Praying to God gives you the strength to continue and He takes all your problems and shows you the way to deal with them. To be childlike and naive are different things. to be childlike is to believe that anything and everything is possible. to be naive is to not know something and try to make a claim on knowledge

From a purely psychological perspective, yes. From a real human perspective, only if you use him as an excuse for the bad things in your life and expect him to fix all your problems.

yes it is. we long and hope that there is someone/something higher than us and that has the power to prolong our existance beyong what we ourselves can. all life tries to survive and doesn't want to die. it's the fear that drives us. all the people here will tell you that you have to believe in god, god the son, god the spirit, when in fact they believe in those only bc they read it somewhere( biblie) the bible was in fact written by man..so in turn we must put faith in those people that wrote it..that's beliefe in man not god. it just doesn't add up, that god would intrust man to be saviors of mankind..language doesn't translate well...it's destined to be mistranslated and misinterpretated through human history and even the present...so there you go...:-)

You won't know that God is trying to answer your questions until you put away sin. God is no respector of persons and does not communicate with you if you are in sin because then heaven is closed to you.
