I've become obsessed with dying. I am not sick, that I know of but the thought of dying is crippling me and I cannot stop obsessing about it.

Has anyone else had this and if so, how were you able to get over it? I really need your help, serious answers only please.

Death WILL happen, knowing that you shouldn't even bother to think about it. Death will either bring about something great or it will bring absolutly nothing. In that sense NOTHING bad can come from it. Fear should never get in the way of how you live your life.

PS: Just because death wont be bad shouldn't mean you should go out on a golf course during a lightning storm and hold up a 10 foot long metal pole. Live life fully but not like an idiot.

Try this :

its like you have 2 pictures .

One is something that trigger you to think of death , and the feelings about death overwhelm you that cause you to feel very very depressed. When this happens , quickly change the picture to something nice, e.g. a nice holiday somewhere , an awesome scenery somewhere you seen before, a funny story you heard , or a funny movie you watch. Select one that can calm you most , or that makes you most relax .

Then whenever you feel the death phobia starts , replace it with a picture that makes you relax and forget about your fear.

This method is called " replacing the pictures "

I did this to overcome mine, a different phobia , it helps .

Another thing , join a society or what and mix and talk to people , keep busy , then you have less time to allow your thinking " roaming around "

If you are a Christain , pray and sing praises may also help.

Heyy, well, uhh, I'm somewhat the opposite from you ... As in, when I think about dying, I'm just like 'oh ...' and I kinda leave it at that. How to overcome it? Well, it's all psychological, so you'll just have to try your hardest to be in a different state of mind. When you think of death, you probably think about all the negative parts of it, like the coffin, six feet under, worms eating through your corpse, etc. But try to view it in a positive way ... Envision the pearly gates (that is, if you follow Christianity and/or some other religion), or envision yourself being reincarnated as a rich man or something. Also, you seem like you are young or young-ish; you have many years ahead of you, why are you stressing about death now? There's some quote out there, you know, that goes like "It's not how many breaths you take in one lifetime, it's ...." And then I forget it. But you get the point, right? Ever read the childrens' book Tuck Everlasting? The family that has immortality in their are miserable people; living forever isn't a good thing, and that's why it's impossible to do. So just try to live what years you have left to the fullest. =^^=

Well, I don't ask you why do you have to stop believing in God, because that is another debate altogether. But you see one can't live a life without some faith, without thinking that there is some meaning in this life and that there is some meanigful patterns in our life and deaths. Old saying goes, "THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTS"..... You die only when you have to. That is true. But to understand why did someone else die is not so easy, or sometimes beyond our mortal understanding. Death can occur due to one of the below cases : 1) You cause it 2) Universe causes it. You cause it by constantly thinking of it. If the universe causes it then it is for some larger meaning. Hence, stop thinking about death. Rather divert your focus and attention towards life - a life that you can think to be most meaningful one. And, start doing those little bit of actions which you think can take you towards your ideal meaningful life, atleast one step ahead from where you are now. Free your mind, heart and soul. Get rid of all the borrowed ideas from both religious and other so-called anti-God thinkers. Both are equally crap. Search your truths. Free yourself from fears. Move towards what you think as a beautfiul and meaningful life. The universe will respond to you, it may take time, but it will. Take my words. You will see the bliss.

well it's a fact that everyone who is born dies. it's also a fact that almost no one welcomes it, even the torturously ill. and indeed some obsess about it.

my suggestion is two-fold, study and practice yoga meditation, and read some buddhist philosophy. there is much insight to be gained in this way, and perhaps you can begin to come to terms with it. here's a quik shortcourse: life is pain. the reason for this pain is "grasping, clinging and wanting." (there is a way to end the pain, and that's through buddhist principles, etc). but go back and read that again. the reason for the pain of life is merely the clinging onto life and material things. why you obsess so is quite possibly simply because you don't want to lose what you think you have. but no one "has" anything. you're born with nothing, you die with nothing. maybe you're just scared it will hurt. from what i understand, it's the one thing in life that does not hurt.

i'll tell you this, from personal experience, there is nothing more eye-opening than a near-death experience. the everyday cares of the world just don't seem to matter as much after. and worrying about death just seems so dam pointless.

good luck with this.

First, I suggest you see a doctor for your condition. Y/A members are no substitute for professional help.

My suggestion, for what it's worth, is to face your fear. Write about it, draw pictures, etc., and try to understand what in your life has happened that is causing it. Has a loved one passed away recently, for example? A favorite pet? These obsessions may be due to some type of inaccurate perception of reality, and once you find out what that is, you should be able to improve. In the meantime, staying busy and keep your mind occupied on other things.

Please don't forget what I said up front...seek some professional help.

I always heard that most people who die are afraid of what's on the other side.

I used to be afraid, totally afraid and even sometimes I'm afraid of dying..but after seing my baby niece die infront of me after a long battle, it took me to my faith and I finally saw that death is only the begining and that it truly is the only peace in this world.

Hope this isn't to schlocky.

Get well soon man :)

come to a conclusion as to what happens to you when you die. We will all die at one point, a lot of anxiety can occur when you have no beliefs as to what happens next, whether its a life of eternity in another place, reincarnation, or nonexistence. Having some sort of belief and then developing it from there can help ease the anxiety
