I just bought my hubby new sneakers and we gave the kitten the box to play in. He loved it until he bit down into it and his front tooth broke off! It is the lower right fang (the long sharp one.)
He is about 5 months old now... Is this normal? Do Kittens lose their teeth? It is just a cardboard box!
***And before you tell me to get off Yahoo and go to the vet... Remember, it is Sunday!
Jenny... are you out there? You were so helpful last time! Know anything about kitten teeth?

Oh.. those sharp little teeth are bad... You did not really tell me if the tooth broke off.. does that mean it broke half way off or broke off completely and is gone. At any rate, it was undnoubtedly a baby tooth and not to worry.. They have a number of baby teeth that they lose within 6 months and new ones come in.. Not to worry and do not waste money on a vet

Yes, kittens lose some teeth. The one you're talking about will be replaced by a permanent tooth later on.
He should be fine, just watch him to make sure there isn't any pain. Exposed nerve endings could make eating painful, so make sure he's eating well until the rest of the tooth comes out.
From what I've read, it's common for kittens to swallow their baby teeth since most owners never even notice that they've fallen out. So don't be surprised if that one's just gone one day.

Does it look like it is a baby tooth still, or is it a larger tooth, like a permant one? Kittens lose their teeth around 5 or 6 months of age, but usually the new tooth is already visible. Call the vet tomorrow and ask about it, but for now, kitty will be fine, though a bit of pain is possible, if the nerve is exposed. If it is a permant tooth already, then it'll require treatment of some sort, and that might get expensive.
Another possibility, it could have been the whole baby tooth, and what you are seeing now is the emerging adult tooth.

Yes, kittens lose their baby teeth. Just keep an eye on your kitten to make sure that he loses the remainder of the tooth and that he doesn't cut himself on the sharp edge. I don't see any need to take him to the vet unless you see that other teeth are breaking rather than falling out. A good source of calcium for growing kittens is cottage cheese. They love it and it won't give them diarrhea like other dairy products. Good luck with your little guy.

Cats do have deciduous teeth, which they lose as permanent teeth replace them. Usually the first teeth to be replaced are the central incisors (the middle teeth in the very front of the mouth) at about 3.5 to 4 months of age, followed by the premolars and molars along the sides of the mouth and the four big canine teeth at 5 to 6 months of age.

Do noy worry. Whether they fall on floor or the kitten swallow them. Nothing is going to happen to the kitten. The bones and teeth of the prey the kitten eat are much bigger than the milk teeth and do no harm to them.

cats, like humans, have "baby" teeth that they lose and then are replaced by permanent teeth.
