read the old testament, then read the qur'an. very clear it is the same God.
Is it because jesus spoke in parables that people think he was talking about love and flowers?
the gnashing of teeth in the hell fire that jesus spoke of? all the messengers came to warn

I am a Christian and have read the Qu'ran and both are pretty horrifying in parts -- I am a history buff and many times people read history with the knowldge and conscience they have today which is a flawed reading.
Humanity was barbaric post Adam and Eve and God meets us where we are -- the New Testament is vastly different from the Old as there was the Roman Empire that civilized and united vast amounts of land. God can't give us more than we can understand so He has to just spoon feed us from birth until we can eat solid food.... does that make sense?
It makes me shiver when I see lions attacking gazelles and I don't get why that is the way of the world, but I just believe God is loving, kind, merciful and knows what He's doing.
Back to the Qu'ran -- there are some beautiful passages in there and I think both the Bible and Qu'ran should be taken as a whole and the prevailing message is what is most important. Think about taking snippets of information from any book or even things you may have said in your life and how it wouldn't represent you at all...... God is an infinite being and we are finite, so it would make sense that it would take Him an eternity to tell us everything we need to know which I doubt we will ever even come close to understanding Him fully. Also, we can't do advanced calculus without understanding how to add and subtract -- that's how I account for the "barbarism" in the OT (Lord forgive me if I have misspoken, amen).

Both the Bible and the Koran...on the surface...are hateful books, but their vehemence is actually directed at attitudes/behaviours rather than people!------Old languages were very different from modern languages, which are mostly literal, and allowed for considerable freedom of expression via metaphors and symbols. Most of what is written in these great books is intended for the deeper/psychological mind rather than the literal/superficial mind.------The parables of the New Testament, and the teaching stories of the Old Testament, Koran, as well as the Sufis stories, are all excellent examples of this truth. Maurice Nicoll's great book " The New Man " explained these matters lucidly but is currently out of print.------Please don't shiver with fear when reading holy books. God/Allah loves us all beyond expression, and you seem to be a very nice person.------Best wishes. Philip.

I take it you have never read the Old Testement. Same thing. Flames, killing, eye for an eye. Remember that? Book of Revelations. Ever read it? Don't judge until you know all the facts. The Koran isn't the only religious book that focuses on punishment.

i think it's been said, the bible has just as much flames, killing, revenge etc. The basic message of Christianity and Islam is the same: love one another, it's just that stupid people twist this to serve their own agendas. Everyone has a choice and is responsible for themselves. If someone decides it is a good idea to kill someone, it is because they decided to, and if they blame it on a book, then they are just making excuses. Instead of SHIVERING WITH FEAR educate yourself, think about things, and you may come to a wiser conclusion.

This is a loaded question, and I disagree with the premise. The koran can be used to justify horrific violence. So can the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, so can Hindu Holy Texts. Even the words of Buhda have been used by radicals to wage wars (such as those, including monks, in Shri Lanka today who advocate the slaughter of Hindus). However, the main focus of the Koran is certainly not on killing and vengeance. There is far more in it about peace and reconciliation. Muslims are forbade for starting wars, except to protect other Muslims from death or persecution, for exapmle. All believers in the religions of the book (Judaism and Christianity) are to be allowed freedom of worship and the reight to live unmolested in moslem countries. And so on and so forth.
When reading the Old Testament, we come across numerous exhortations from god himself to slaughter every single inhabitant of a city, one psalm even delights in the smashing of baby's skulls over rocks.
The idea that Islam is a violent religion is absurd. Violent moslems exist just as violent christians, jews, hindus etc exist. However, looking at the violence done to the Moslem world by christians over the last century and violence done to the christian world by moslems, we see that millions of moslems have been killed by christians (during various occupations in the middle east and north Africa, particularly that of Iraq and Algeria, during the illegal sanctions on Iraq (at least 500,000 children dead) during the US instigated mass murders in Indonesia (between 400,000 and 600,000 killed) during the invasions of afganistan and Iraq, and so on and so forth) and only a few thousand christians have been killed by moslems, outside of wars of defense, and almost none my moslem states (rather than terrorist groups).
It is so vitally important that we in the west acknowledge the hideous violence that we have used against moslems, killing millions, and accept that legitimacy of the moslem world's anger after such brutal treatment.

Just maybe this is the answer. That's why it should be called a WAR. Hope we get over the appeasement attitude and wake up!!
All Muslim believers believe that, ultimately, Islam will prevail on earth. They believe this is the only true religion and there is no room, in their mind, for interpretation. The main difference between moderate Muslims and extremists is that moderate Muslims don't think they will see the absolute victory of Islam during their lifetime, therefore they respect other beliefs. The extremists believe that the fulfillment of the Prophecy of Islam and ruling the entire world as described in the Koran, is for today. Each victory of Bin Laden convinces 20 million moderate Muslims to become extremists

If you are a terrorist, you are NOT Muslim. They are Muslim by Name, not by HEART.
The Quran is filled with Peace and Tolerance. Why haven't you mentioned those parts?
3:134. Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity, or in adversity; who restrain anger, and pardon (all) men;- for Allah loves those who do good;-
8:58. If thou fearest treachery from any group, throw back (their covenant) to them, (so as to be) on equal terms: for Allah loveth not the treacherous.
25:63. And the servants of ((Allah)) Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say, "Peace!";
25:70. Unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful,
71. And whoever repents and does good has truly turned to Allah with an (acceptable) conversion;-
41:35. And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint,- none but persons of the greatest good fortune.
31:4. Those who establish regular Prayer, and give regular Charity, and have (in their hearts) the assurance of the Hereafter.
31:8. For those who believe and work righteous deeds, there will be Gardens of Bliss,-
83:Worship none but Allah. treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and those in need; speak fair to the people; be steadfast in prayer; and practise regular charity. Then did ye turn back, except a few among you, and ye backslide (even now).
just a minute amount in the Quran.

Honey have you read the bible - if you want vengeance just check out that christian god - and true christians (radical or not) spend this life preparing for the next too. The only real difference between moslems and christians is geography and how their medias represent the other.

The Quran, the last revealed Word of God, is the prime source of every Muslim's faith and practice. It deals with all the subjects which concern us as human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, and law, but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures. At the same time it provides guidelines for a just society, proper human conduct and an equitable economic system.

Here we go again...
Another question aimed spitefully at Islam.
Although on the bright side, there are plenty of learned people to put you straight so i aint worried about stoopid people like you.
One thing that Islam teaches is respect for other religions which you obviously dont have. You should learn to respect other religions and learn to respect yourself.
STOP BEING A VERBAL TERRORIST!
