Many proponents of the Atkins Diet love Slim Jims. They are low in carbohydrates and very high in protein. Yes, they are a food, but not a very healthful one....Slim Jims are dangerously high in sodium and can wreak havoc on your kidneys with the protein. If you crave a good snack with protein, how about a handful of unsalted walnuts, peanuts or hazelnuts? Yummy, satisfying and healthy!

Yes, a Slim Jim is a spiced sausage stick. It is also a device to help break into a locked car.

In starving countries throughout the globe--maybe-- really just a snack item made from dehydrated beef (also with some questionable fillers) that are spiced. I am not sure where on the food chain these are, but tastes good anyway as I ate one yesterday!!

People say it is beef but if you go to the grocery store and look at the ingredients, one of the first is "mechanically separated chicken".

Anyone else think of robots just ripping chickens to shreds?

Friggin' nasty. I vote "not a food".

I think it's on the same level as Deviled Ham and Spam. It's a "sorta food".

Oh yes, it is a food, but it is not number one or number two on the "most healthy foods you can eat" list.
