I have been married 3 times my first wedding was HUGE, several hundred people most i didn't know as they were guests of my parents or his..... $15,000.00 marriage lasted 4 years...
My second was about 120 people I knew them all.. $3000.00 marriage lasted 364 days
My third was select friends and family 60 people $500.00 marriage has lasted 10 years and still going..
I enjoyed the third wedding far more than my other 2 my family members who attended all three also enjoyed the last smaller more intamate and more relaxed wedding as well...
I would say nope the HUGE wedding wasn't worth all the time and trouble... I spent so much time trying to make it all perfect I forgot to enjoy myself..

I think now days people have gotten away from the real reason for a wedding it's not to show off how much money you have, or (no offense intended to anyone) how much of a spoiled "princess" you are. Yes it's your special day, but why not go simple and pretty and use the money on a house. It's just sad that weddings have gotten glitzy back in the old days they were never over the top fancy, and most of those weddings lasted until the partners passed on.

I had a small wedding. Me my husband and two friends. That was all.
I have seen many a person spent $20,000 to $100,000 for wedding only to have the couple in divorce court before the wedding was paid for.
Have a small wedding in your back yard or at the park and have a pot luck.
Weddings now a times have not the meaning the had years ago. When for better or worse meant that and a husband had respect for his wife and she had respect for her.

We had over 200 people.
Worth it depends on what you expect to get out of it.
If you are talking money - it is a 50-50 proposition the more you invite the more non-close people attend and they tend not to pay more than the cost of the meal...etc.
If you want to enjoy your day with everyone you and your parents know - then invite away.... sometimes more is better if you want to have a big dance floor....and have your parents have fun inviting their friends/ relatives...etc.

If you plan to get married in the Philippines, it's much cheaper..
We got married here for about $6k - 7k... and it was a great wedding, had good deals from providers.. everyone says it was big, but we thought it was a simple one... I'm glad my wife loved it, and told me that it was her dream wedding...
we had our preparation for 2 months and a few weeks before our wedding...

Absolutely no! I had people at my wedding that I only saw that day,and didn't know them to begin with.I got tea towels(should have been delivered before the wedding) from people that my father entertained at a large sum of money Take the money and put it towards a nice house. You will have more memories from your house than the drunken reception.

I don't know if this qualifies for a big wedding, we spent about 17,000 for my daughters in June. It was worth every penny.

Big weddings to me are just a "show", plus I've seen the drama it brings trying to get everything "perfect", I think you lose sight of WHY you're getting married in the first place.

We are having a wedding that is big people-wise but not big money-wise. It can be done.

No. You'll never get all your money back. The stress is bad for you and everyone around you.HINT: 50% of all people getting married this year will get divorce.
