Traditionally, clients don’t tip salon owners. There’s an understanding because an owner’s income is higher than an assistant’s.

If a stylist’s assistant blow-dries your hair, you might tip $2 to $8, depending on the length and quality of the service. Shampoo assistants who wash your hair before a cut get $2 to $5, while those who perform more-difficult washing after a coloring should get more, $5 to $10.

You tip the owner of the salon if he/she is the one that styled your hair. I suggest a 20% tip for any stylist, more if you think that the service and quality of the work is worth more. Remember that the owner may not actually be getting a paycheck each week and that his/her services are worth at least as much as the stylist working for him/her. Just because you might pay, say, $25 for a hair cut that does not mean that the owner gets all of that, infact he/she may not get anything out of it after paying bills, other stylists, the government etc.

I tip the person who does my hair not the owner, the stylist/barber does all the work.

No part of the tip you give your server goes to the salon owner already.

Yes. You always tip the person who does your hair. If you don't, I would'nt go back to them. They may not do as well of a job!

why would you feel the need to tip someone for doing their job, they are being paid to serve you! you should not need to tip them for a paid service!
