Great anachronism! Jesus couldn't have been a socialist because socialism didn't exist.
Did Jesus advocate the social ownership / control of goods? No.
a) He continually chose to warn people about "property" rather than seek to redistribute it.
b) He contended a higher concern put one's relationship with another as a higher priority.
c) Given the opportunity to intervene between two brothers on the issue, he refused.
d) He had virtually no interaction with the state, Roman or Judaic, until the time of his choosing i.e. entry to Jerusalem.
e) He specifically moved away from a popular "push" to make him king and theoretically, therefore, right the wrongs of distribution.

Jesus said "give to Caesar what is Caesar; but to GOD what belongs to GOD." (or something close.)
So I would say Jesus, was focused only on people's souls and their eternal reward or damnation. The day to day social/political stuff he left for us to work out.
He said bless people that care for and/or feed others, etc.; but he never forced us to.

So I will say - with out any knowledge of the subject: No he was not a socialist.

The Lord's government primarily seeks to reform your understanding and regenerate your will to give you a heart of flesh or be reborn or be circumcised of the heart. After you are reborn, you will thrive in the Lord's government which is a kingdom.

Jesus Christ said many things would have to be done before the kingdoms of this world could be called the kingdom of the Lord.

Socialism is a form of government, not the love for others that Jesus was referring to. I like to think he would vote Republican though.

if you read the Bible and the acts of the apostles YES early Christians shared what they had with one another and all worked together for there community.
It seem allot of people here don't know what socialism is.

"those who beleived shared all things in common they would sell there property and goods dividing everything on the basis of each ones needs "

Jesus said, "the poor you always have with you." If He thought that poverty was inevitable then He pobably wasn't a socialist.

hmm.. i think Christianity by definition is socialist in theory. and in theory, socialism isn't bad.. it has everyone on an even page..

that said, Jesus definitely spoke of a hierarchy in heaven, and in socialism, there are no hierarchies. so, my answer is no..
