I am above 49years, I just noticed that I get a sandy effect on my left eye when i wake up in the morning. it clears when i wipe my eyes clean. what is responsible and what is the answer to better sight without using glasses? I am using glasses at the moment.

Possibly dried tears or mucous discharge from sleeping.
For better sight without glasses, you may want to try contacts, or if you're nearsighted, LASIK surgery.
You don't say how old above 49 years you are. You may have the start of cataracts. There is a new implantable lens on the market called the "Rezoom" lens. This will give you both far and near sight without ever having to worry about cataract surgery in the future. But mind you, it is an expensive procedure at this time. The doctor I work for has had excellent results implanting these lenses.
