I haves the same problem with my old dog that is nearing 17. She dry coughs a some particularly in the morning. I have had her tested for heart worm which was first on the list.. Valley fever was a second option but that is not it and the third thing was Bordatella but that is not the case so I am thinking now that she(due to her age)(and being overweight) probably has an enlarged heart. I will take her down next week to have her x-rayed and if that is the case, they have medicine for a dog with enlarged heart.

Sounds like a Tumor. Your dog needs to see a Vet. He's probably in a lot of pain.

I have a dog who died in January from a hemangiosarcoma. From one day to the next. He started by being disoriented a little. Oxygen could not get to his brain. Then had a hard time breathing and looked very swollen. His chest cavity had filled up with fluids and it was too late. The Vets could not do anything. 2 days later he died.

Your dog is old and I'm sure you gave him a good life. Do what's best for him. It's never easy. Good luck.

Please take him/her to a good vet, he/she may be in a great deal of pain. At 16 years it could be anything, let the vet decide. If you love this animal you need to follow the vets suggestion. If its time, then no matter how hard it is, its time. God speed.. Your loved pet will be there for you at the Rainbow Bridge. Have faith

Well since you called your dog a he then he couldn't be pregnancy. I'd get him to a vet like totally fast. Whatever it is doesn't sound healthy at all.

A tumor/ cancer or congestive heart failure. Sounds like it might be time for the poor old dog to go peacefully to sleep if he seems to be suffering.

Get him to a vet. And no heroics, if he's suffering, you must let him go. Good luck.
