I personally wouldn't want to serve for a liar and for an unjust cause. Also, people have the right to serve or not to serve, making conscription part of every day life is just more conservative propaganda to send the poor and middle-class to die on the frontline.

Well, in my case, I would have done more harm than good. I am one of the most girly girls you will ever meet. I would have been so distracted by my discomfort that I would have never survived a day in the military let alone combat.
You could make me join, but in a scary situation I would have just fallen down and cried. All I would end up being is a body to take a bullet or even cause someone else to take a bullet with me.

Everyone in the military today "wants to be there". They signed up, ate some dirt during basic, and began their careers, born out of an individual choice to be there. They then go to hell and back, fighting and eating shiat, and working to bring their fellow soldiers back home alive. When you bring people who, who haven't made the personal sacrifice, to decide to serve, you have all sorts of people who "dont want to be there". I will take 10 soldiers who do want to fight, over 1,000 cowards who would rather not. A volunteer military is something we pride ourselves in. It is highly effective and lethal. A volunteer military is what makes the difference when the chips are down. Saddams army ran and surrendered, we finished the fight.

Compulsory military service makes the worst kind of soldier who resentss being sent to war and make poor soldiers in most cases.
As history tells us the sons of the rich and powerful can find ways to get out of the draft and avoid going to war as Geo. W. Bush did.

I think our country would be a better place if everyone served in the military. But the force is stronger when everyone wants to be there. Plus, everyone isnt cut out for military life.

We have a volunteer military. If the draft is reinstated Canada would once again be flooded by cowards..but this time the illegal leechs from the south would instantly flood in to take their places.

I have mixed feelings about compulsory service. First I think it would build a more informed nation.
My other issue is that I would not want some panzy a.ss don't wanna be there punk serving next to me. War is difficult enough with out having to cover your mission and watching out for the slackers..........

Many of us don't believe in ANY war. Twenty years ago I taught my children that if the draft was reinstated that we were moving to Canda or Switzerland...........and I meant it. In God's eyes, one life is never more valuable than another life. What gets me about Bush is the double standard he has......he screams pro life and no abortion, yet has no qualms about the death penalty or killing anyone he doesn't like. He even bragged in Texas when he was governor that we in Texas kill more men on death row than any state in the Union......now, that is really something to be proud of, isn't it??????

Though the term slave is generally applied economically, in that: one who who produces while another disposes of that product is a slave, I can think of very few more serious violations of ones liberty than forcing one to risk and even lose his life against his will. We cannot delegate to another a right which we ourselves do not posses, and we possess no right to force another to fight for us, to die for us, hence we cannot give that right to politicians, or anyone else for that matter.

because it goes against what this country stands for , freedom of choice. to join or not to join. I admire anyone who is in or is thinking of joining the military...and I thank them for affording me the liberties I have today because if it werent for them or people just like them we wouldnt be able to be free. Someone fought and died so we would have the ability to decided whether or not we would want to be in the military. Thanks and God Bless our troops!!!
