Check with your local parks and rec department to see if you city offers a class. I live in a medium size town in FL and they have golf classes for kids (say 18 and under?) and classes for adults. I took the adults class we met for an hour each Saturday for 5 weeks. I borrowed a set of junky clubs from a friend to learn with. It was great fun and afterward I was pretty decent at playing. I am going to go back and take the class once more to improve my game, but it is lots of fun. The class was limited to say 10-12 people so we got decent one on one time with the teacher. That type of course will get you the basics of the stance the swing etc but for the rules and etiquette of playing you may want a book.

Go for it. People think golf is an expensive sport to begin, but nothing is further from the truth. You can learn the basics at a driving range and mini-golf. Everything you learn there in a relatively inexpensive environment is fully applicable on the course. You can buy a cheap second hand set of clubs for starters and then move up as you gain experience.

Go to your local golf pro (he will be at the golf course). He will be able to help you get started with lessons, clubs, everything you need. My daughter started golf when she was six and that is what we did. Good luck and enjoy golf.

My tip is just to practice as much as you can and try to play for your school team (if you have one). If you want to practice at home, you can buy golf wiffle balls for really cheap so you can practice your hitting in the backyard, but you will have a much lower risk of breaking anything.

You can start at two places
Do not buy any equipment at this time
1. Go to www.juniorlinks.com and look for a program in your area
2. Go to www.playgolfamerica.com and do the same as above pick out the best program for you. Try to find out that teaches you everything including taking you on the course like Link Up 2 Golf

good luck
