the neighbors always play with my kids, eat here, and go places with us,
when their parents are going somewhere, our kids aren't invited and they have to go home while they're eating, etc.
I can't not let their kids eat or tell them they can't go, the parents are mexican and speak little english, we have to talk through the kids(their kids spoke both languages) it hurts me when my kids are being treated this way.

You know, I was thinking about it that way, maybe they can't afford it, it's not like I have alot of money at all, I would just think to share what I had, maybe I'll just try to talk to them(through the kids). Thanks for your answers!

They probably can't afford it. My neighbor does a lot with my kids as well but she knows I have 3 kids and 1 on the way so I just get by as it is. So I try not to let her do too much because I do feel badly that I am not able to do so much with her children.

Count yourself lucky for having the ability to offer meals and entertainment to the kids of your neighbor. You may never know their financial situation, as asking them directly or through the kids, is rude. It is also rude to presume that they cannot afford to take your kids with them or share their meals with your kids.

If you struggle financially in order to include the other kids, stop doing it. It may seem cruel to you, but kids view the world through different eyes. When you start to set the table for a meal, tell the extra kids that it is family mealtime so they need to leave now. Make sure to include an invitation for them to back over to play after they eat dinner at home. When you get ready to leave for a family activity, tell the extra kids that your kids will play with them when they get home.

No matter what you do, avoid complaining or talking about how you feel about the situation within the hearing of your kids. You do not want to put them in the position of trying to please you and trying to have friends.

To help the parents of the other children learn to speak English, and perhaps for you to learn some Spanish, invite them to dinner sometime. Try to suggest that they reciprocate on occasion by preparing Mexican meals at their home. You may also ask them to help you learn to prepare some of the dishes that they eat often.

Good luck!

You know, it may be a money issue, also. When we were younger, we could not afford to feed the neighborhood kids, or take them anywhere with us. It might be the language barrier, but you really shouldn't be offended. Some people can just barely afford their own family, much less a few additional children.

Maybe they don't feel welcome to take your kids?

Maybe dinner time is family time for them?

How should we know? You should talk to them, not us! Even if they speak limited English, you should be able to find a translator, through the children, or something!

if it hurts you then cut back on being so nice....chances are the parents are concerned that they do not speak english well enough to communicate with your children or yourself and this causes them embarrassment

not everyone is as generous as you. be good to the kids and teach them to share and you will be better. your kids will be fine just make sure they understand.
