OK,
First of all, there is the moral aspect. Are you two Christians? Sex is for procreation...aka children. You can't make children analy.
Then, there is the, what if? aspect. What if I enjoy it more than vaginal sex? I am certain that it can be addictive. Then, wether you are with your girlfriend or not, you are going to be desiring anal sex. Not all women will participate in this...me included. Could it potentially end another relationship in the future?
It is good to think it out, especially because of the reprocussions. I, myself, would not do it. There is just too much attached to it. Too many unknowns.
I believe, it is safe physically, but not mentally or emotionally. It really degrades the relationship and kind of dirties the intimacy.

It is safe w/ a condom and yes, use lots of lube as the anus does not self lubricate like the vagina. Many people enjoy anal sex and find that the anus has many nerve endings to register sensation and that the anal sphincter, even though it should be relaxed for anal intercourse, is a much more snug receptacle than the mouth or vagina.

It can be safe if you use protection and a lot of lube. She might be doing it because she thinks you want it but don't want to ask. If that's the case, it's very sweet of her. But maybe you should tell her that you aren't that interested in it. Maybe she will change her mind.

It is only safe if you make sure to clean yourself off before putting it in her vagina after the anal part.

If your comfortable and she is too then I suggest a condom lots of lube and be gentle the first couple of times its totally safe and it can be enjoyable if you are both willing and ready.
