Please help at least 3 or 4 times a week he acts bratty and will not eat anything but Spagettios for lunch and supper. Is this a faze ? What should I do? He snacks good but its the meals he gives mama trouble with.

As his parent, YOU decide what goes on the table. He decides if he's eating at all, and how much. (Of course, when you're planning menus, you can ASK him what he'd like to eat this week. Everyone deserves to get their favorites once in a while. If he picks Spaghettios for one meal, well, so be it.)

But's not good to get kids thinking that there's special food that's "theirs." Kids should be exposed to a wide range of flavors and textures early on, and should eat whatever adults are eating. Otherwise, you end up with kids who will only eat spaghettios, ranch dressing, chicken strips, and noodles.

He won't starve himself, no matter how much you worry.

So if he's being stubborn about only eating Spaghettios, don't serve them. Until he's pretty reliable about eating dinner with the rest of the family, and eating what you serve, offer only healthy snacks, and fewer of them. At meals, he eats what you eat, or he doesn't eat at all. He'll change his ways pretty quickly.

You can still offer Spaghettios as a treat, once in a while, but it's a TREAT, not a staple.

He might be more interested in what you're serving if you let him help prepare it, or let him help set the table. Or if you take him to a restaurant, once in a while. Mexican, Chinese, and Thai places are hits with my kids, and I like that they don't expect to eat in places like McDonald's and Champs' all the time.

It sounds like a normal phase of a picky eater but if I were you I would be cautious about giving into his tantrums when it comes to meal time or you will be cooking special orders for him all the time.

My recommendation is to open up a can of spaghettios and put it in a tupperware in the fridge. Give him a spoonful at each meal and serve it with whatever everyone else is eating. If he eats it all then he can chose to eat anything else on his plate, but the spaghettios are "all gone" and there will be no seconds. This way he is still getting a taste of his favorite food but you are encouraging him to not fill up on it and offering him other foods. Over time you can wean him from having spaghettios every meal.

Good luck! I know mealtime battles are hard but hopefully this method is a nice compromise for both of you.

How old is he?

I would suggest that you make him what everyone else is eating for dinner. If he won't eat that when it's served, fine. Let him up from the table. When he gets hungry later, offer it to him again. He'll eat it.

Reserve the Spaghetti-O's for lunch. Let him know it's just a lunch thing. Keep repeating that so that he gets it. Then the dinner battles should be out of the way and you don't have to cook two meals.

He'll eventually get tired of them for lunch. Serve him something else WITH it too. Some baby carrots or something else healthy.

I went through the same thing with my daughter when she was 3. All she wanted to eat where hot dogs all day long. My son's obsession was mac n cheese. I asked their doctor and he said it was just a faze give it to them until they get tired of it. I did and it's true. My daughter is seldom eats hot dogs. They are not her favorite food. My son still likes mac n cheese. He doesn't eat it as much but he just got over it about 2 years ago.

I would only give it twice a week, then wean down to once. Make your own pasta and sauce - you can get alphabets and bows and squiggly things, etc. Kids do go through phases, but you still have to make sure they get balanced nutrition. Start serving his meals "snack-style" and see if that helps - little portions and bits of everything with dips and stuff - but make sure there are veggies and meat and fruit.

Probably a faze. My daughter is like that with chicken fingers and pasta. Just keep offering new foods as well, but your kid has to eat, so feeding him what he'll eat. Hopefully soon he'll change to something less processed.

Well, you've answered this one yourself.

Does your son do the cooking?
Do you think he should learn that "being bratty" will get him what he wants?
Are snacks better for him than properly prepared meals at a set time?

I am sure it is a phase but he should be served what everyone else is eating or supper. If he doesn't want it then, eventually he will get hungry and eat what everyone else is having.
