I use a straightner on my hair daily because i have naturally curly hair, and it used to damage it and make it very brittle. after years of experimenting with it i have learned a few things that help. First, dont every leave the iron in one spot for too long. always keep it moving and then go back over it if you need to . second, moisurize very well and use a hair repair treatment weekly. Since you already have damage i would suggest trying a few hair repair products from the store before spending a ton of money at a salon. some good ones are pantene, frizz ease, dove. I have even left conditioners on the brittle spots overnight or at least for a while why you watch tv etc. Also try an after product so when you are done straightening you can smooth out those brittle areas. It may take some time to make it healthy again but if you use continuious care then there should be no reason you should not continue to straighten it. also try the ceramic straightners, they seem to do better than the metal. Good luck

I have naturally curly hair, and whenever I straighten it, I use a leave-in conditioner. Neutrogena makes this really good one called Triple Moisture.
Triple Moisture also makes a weekly deep conditioner. It comes in an orange jar. Pantene makes a good one, too, but I can't remember the name of it (but I know it's for curly hair).
Depending on how often I straighten my hair, I will deep condition my hair once or twice a week.
Finally, wear your hair curly once in a while. Giving your hair a break from styling is always a good thing, just like getting 8 hours of sleep is good for your body.

i would get a small trim and take some time off from straightening and washing.. i know the washing part sounds gross, but find a couple days where you don't really care how you look and every day comb the natural oils from your scalp down your hair.. it will get greasy, but that is the best moisture for your hair (do this every so often to hydrate your hair... maybe once a month)... also, do a deep conditioning treatment once a week...

Any heat applied to your hair causes damage. What kind of straightener are you using, ceramic or metal? Ceramic is the best kind to use if you must use one. I use Back to Basics Pomegranate Peach Shampoo and Conditioner. You could also try Deepshine Bio-Marine Therapy by Rusk. It makes hair really soft and shiny.

The oils in your hair have been stripped and need to be replaced. You don't need anything fancy or expensive. A good ol' olive oil should do the trick. Before going to bed wash your hair and towel dry. Apply olive oil , comb thru and put on a plastic shower cap or even just a plastic bag. In the morning shampoo a couple of times and you will notice a difference.

When it grows out..
You have to use a heat seal when you straighten it.
I use Paul Mitchell Heat Seal.
It works wonders since I straighten my hair everyday.
Good luck!
