The US Government is using the BMI or Body Mass Index since April of 2004. You can find BMI calculators all over the internet by searching for "BMI Calculator" on Yahoo or Google. Just add in your heithgt and weight it will tell you your Current BMI. Any BMI between 17.5 and 27 is considered normal. 28-39 is overweight that is until 40 then you are morbidly obese, which means your weight is likely to afect your morbidity. In other words it will probably eventually shorten your life.

People before me have provided some sites to check BMI and height to weight ratios. I would add to consider your waist measurement when you're trying to determine if you're an appropriate size or not. Rule of thumb - if you're a woman and your waist at the widest position is over 31 inches you're overweight - too much belly fat. Getting belly fat down is as important as BMI or height-weight ratio.

A female who is 5'0" - 5'1" should be around 105 to 131 lbs. Remember, the higher weight in this range is for someone who has a large frame.
