I don't think that they believe more, but Brits, Canadians and the rest of the civillized world we dont need to be loud and proud to be effective, spiritual or patriotic. There is a reason why they are not well liked in most of the world unfortunately... because its their way or no way!!!

Because the teaching of science is suppressed here.

Because capitalism makes money a top priority and starting a church is easy money.

Because with poverty comes fundamentalism. When life sucks it makes people long more for an afterlife ergo take religion more seriosuly.

Because people in the UK are in general just plain smarter than us.

Because you have Richard Dawkins.

Because the state runs the church in the UK and without so many competing sects the churches that are there aren't as actively seeking to convert people to their brand of religion.

Because your country has witnessed first hand what happens when the Bible is the law book.

Because you can go see the dungeons where unbelievers were tortured by Christians.

Because somewhere along the line a good portion of your society decided that if something is true it must be able to be held up to scrutiny and the scientific method and pass it's every test.

Because you are taught history properly.

Because atheists are accepted in your society and not looked down upon.

I honestly don't know, but it may be that many, many years ago in the UK the royals if you remember kind of did there own thing with the religion. Another words the royals at the time basically said "you belive what I want you to believe." And if you didn't oh, well, sometimes it was "off with your head" time. America on the other hand fought hard for our independence and broke away from the UK.

I think its because Americans are more influenced by the media. In Britain we understand that religion is not the be all and end all of everything. However America has some how managed to tell people that you are only a good American if you believe in Christiatnity. George Bush has gone one step further and decided that you can only be a good Christian if you believe in his politics. I am not a Christian but love living in the Western world. However one thing has always puzzled me. America and the west are built on gluttony, greed and tends to be everything the bible tell us we should not be. So perhaps the question should be why do so many Americans claim to be Christians and then practice anything but Christianity.

They are the same as we were when queen Victoria was around. At the top technologically, maturing, powerful and all that needs to controlled by something. Enter religion. They will grow up, mature and see that religion is a nice idea and a good code for life, but not the b all and end all.

wow...a bunch of US haters answering this question.
im ok with that though, we deserve most of it unfortunitely.

the arguement can be made that european churches have not adapted to a post modern world as well as american churches, and therefore are not as culturally relevant. whether or not this is a good thing or a bad thing is up for debate. American churches that are willing to change with the times are subject to losing traditional values and purpose while chasing public opinion. On the other hand being, faith is not stagnate, so why shouldnt it change with the times?

Europe is more secular. America is founded on Christian principles. That is the reason why the pilgrims left England. The church was trying to ram another religion down their throats and the people didn't like so they left and helped form the greatest country on earth.

Many of the people who first came to the United States came here because of their religious beliefs. They wanted religious freedom and they got it. Christian principles are the foundation of our government - they are part of our Constitution and Pledge. I believe in God whole heartily. I believe the church is a place to worship the Lord with others.

This is God's country. It was founded upon Christian principles. This is the promised land. That's not to say people here are perfect. There are alot of idiots everywhere. God will sort them out.
