I think because when we try to get to ask the kids a question we want to know more, so we say Why to them. So I think they are just copying what we are saying so them. This is the same thing with the word No. The kids say no all the time cause we say that to them a lot.

OMG!! My 3 year old follows 1 "why" up with about 10 others. When I run out of answers, I say "why not??" She now repeats it when I don't give her an answer she's satisfied with. They're so curious at this age.

A scene from life when my son was about 3.

Him: Why?
Me: Because
Him: Why because?
Me: Because because.

Children do need to know why. It is part of the learning process.

I think it helps them to understand the reason behind your answer and it's good that they ask, so they will learn. But be careful it doesn't go beyond the one why. Tell them the answer but if they ask why again, stop it at that, or you'll be going on forever. "why can't I go out and play?" you say because I need you to help me set the table, then they say "why" again and again.

they want to know information or may not have enough vocab to find out for themselves
you can say lets find out look up book computer or look at real life situation why do wheels go around get toy and illustrate
you can ask them back what they think might just stop repetition
be honest in your answers

when a child is asking you "why?" it only takes a couple minutes to answer them properly...give them the reason..the know-how..and the answer...I guarantee the outcome will be greater than the one you get when you just say "because"..or "because I say so" just to try and shut them up or do as you say...children really do want to know..and that's why they ask..

coz its fun for them and it is natural cuz their receptuve and learning power is high and it goes down as you age.If this instinct were not in born, then no human can ever learn anything in the time span as they do now.

Because they want to know everything they possibly can, and they also want to test their boundaries. Which is why they question everything you say, and everything you tell them to do.
