Dandruff is the presence of small, white scales that usually appear on the scalp, and hair. The medical term is pityriasis (pit-ih-RY-uh-sus). Although dandruff is not clearly understood, it is generally believed to involve an infection of the scalp. Long- neglected dandruff may lead to baldness. A sluggish condition of the scalp caused by poor circulation, infection, injury, lack of nerve stimulation, emotional and glandular disturbances, improper diet, and poor personal hygiene contributes to the production of dandruff. Other causes include the use of strong shampoos and inadequate rinsing of the hair. The two principle types of dandruff are pityriasis capitis simplex and pityriasis steatoides. Pityriasis capitis simplex is the technical term for classic dandruff characterized by scalp irritation, large flakes, and an itchy scalp. Pityriasis steatoides is a more severe form of dandruff that is characterized by an accumulation of greasy or waxy scales mixed with sebum.

Basically a bunch of garbage that old school folks used to say when you have dandruff. When you have a particular dandruff, you hair will grow more. Please don't believe that mess.
