I mean as long as they aren't sinful, and don't become an idol? And how do you know when you're in idolatry, and not just enjoying your life, aside from having God flat-out tell you?

of course you can have hobbies. Christians dont have to live boring lives. Just dont let the hobby take the place of God in your life.

Yes.

You know if something becomes an idol when it starts to become more important to you than God. Example: You have fallen so in love with your new bass boat and the sport of fishing that you spend the entire weekend on the lake in your boat and God never enters your thoughts and you're skipping out of Church. It can also be Golfing, whatever...anything.

Keep it in its proper perspective and place and everything is OK.

P.S. ADDITION concerning the wine question:

The only prohibition to wine or alcoholic drink is not to get intoxicated.

Even Paul told Timothy he should take a little wine for his stomach.

A little wine, like they say in the news for medical purposes, is quite alright and its not a sin either.

I've also heard the argument from fundamentalists that wine in Biblical days was different than wine today. It is not. The scientific process of fermentation is exactly the same today as it was when the process was discovered. Wine is wine. The fermentation process not only produced alcohol, it also served as a preservative. There was no way to preserve or protect simple grape juice from deterioration or spoiling.

Sure you are! Life would be quite boring without hobbies and entertainment. If your hobby begins to take first place over God then it's become an idol. That goes for anything in your life. As long as you put God first in your life, you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. So, go have some fun!

Great question! Yes, Christians can have hobbies and interests outside church. While it is true that a Christian will have God as their highest interest, and the One they most love to spend time with, God doesn't mind us having other interests. If you are a friend of someone, you usually share some of their interests. Using science as an example - since God made all the galaxies, stars, planets, all the different species of plants and animals, all the different scientific laws, etc, I think He would enjoy us sharing His interest in those things. There are many references in the Bible to the stars and other aspects of creation, and we are encouraged to think about these things. I am a Christian, and I am also interested in art, music, writing, and reading. I also believe that as my life continues, I will develop new interests. (My interest in art, for example, has just suddenly "sprung up" so to speak in the last year or so, even though in retrospect I see it was kind-of there in the background for most of my life.)

No, despite what anyone here says the bible restricts hobbies and entertainment. This is one example of why so many people are becoming atheist, christians don't even follow what their bible tells them and believe they can go to heaven by yelling at everyone else that they're going to hell.

It seems like you should rethink your question and get back into church. Christians can have tons of fun and do whatever it is. They can even do sinful things because God has given us a freewill. It's just a matter of using common sense. If it's something that you're really concerned about then you probably shouldn't be doing it. :)Well, if you have any more questions just e-mail me about it. Bye!!!

As long as the entertainment is clean, no violence, sex, bad language,no music that degrades authority, nothing supernatural or portays life after death or undead(vampires, zombies, etc.), no bars or lounges, no unlimited drinking, modest dress, don't imitate the world, hobbies are fine as long as you don't get materialistic, don't trust in wealth, keep God first, don't become involved in unclean practices. Don't become involved in competitions. Always remain modest while walking with our God.

Christians can have hobbies.
Christians can have outside interestes, like careers even.
Paul was a tent-maker, working with canvas in Acts.
But putting hobby or career above the Lord is idolotry.
The fact that you are worried about it probably means that you are not in idolotry.

Yes Christians can enjoy things. Many Christians spend so much time in legalism that they forget God wants us to enjoy life.

Yeah, sure they are allowed.

I don't know what branch of Christianity are you with, but mine tells me to have some time off from work, so that I can recharge and recover. We're not supposed to work on Sunday. We're supposed to pray and rest. Resting includes hobbies, why not.
