I recently learned my mothers family is from the Bubi people of Bioko Island, Equitorial Guinea. My fam has been in the US since the late 1600s in south east VA (dad still lives there). I used africanancestry.com to do the DNA tracing.

I'm african american. I don't know what country my ancestors came from but I'm close to finding out. They're most likely from West Africa b/c that's where the slaves came from.

My dad was adopted so I have no idea where his family originated from. However, my great Grandpa came from England. My great Grandma came from Belgium.( They are on my mom's dad's side). My Grandma's grandparents came from Germany. I do not identify with any of these cultures. Especially since I grew up in a predominately Hispanic area of LA for the first 9 years of my life. and my Grandpa had a trucking company in Watts for decades. He lived in that area since the early 1900's. And stayed until his passing in the late 1980's. He was probably the only white person in the area. He didn't care, though.

I'm not African American but I do know they have DNA test now that can help with discovering their ancestry, I know its hard because of the lost of family and history because of slavery, I'm from western European decent with some native American in the mix is all I know right now, but I'm trying to learn more, I think its important to know where you come from in order to know where you are going in part, but in the end its who you are rather then what you are that is most important. Right now these are the countries I know of for me, Ireland (cool), England (of course), France/Arcadian (Hmmm), Germany (yeah, I know), Scotland (maybe) and Native American (learning more). I love genealogy, if youd like to talk give me a buzz.

I know my ancestors' names and countries of origin four or five generations back, but beyond that I don't know. The new DNA testing from a simple inner-cheek swab can give you much more information about where your ancestors came from hundreds of years ago. I think they cost around $120 for the simple ones and on up for the more complex analyses.

Yes, I do (African)! I know I come from the Democratic Republic of Congo (there's two, that one and the normal plain Congo) and was born in Kinshasa... but then moved to Canada later on. So I do know my roots! Now about my other roots... they're on the top of my head, helping my hair stay to my scalp.

Well, I'm not African-American, or Asian American, but I do know what my lineage is. My father's family is mostly Welsh, with my grandmother of Russian heritage, and my mother's family is Scottish/German on my grandmother's side and English on my grandfather's side. I have a wealth of information on my genealogy because of my maternal grandfather, I even know what my family's crest is.
