Why inmates have many rights? They have the right to watch television, radio. 3 meals a day, library, and believe or not they have a nice desk inside their cells.

As a C/O you may not touch them unless you have physical contact with you. I feel that if you are in jail, they should treated like a criminal. Why the government is wasting our tax founding by making sure they have a comfortable stay while locked up & giving they so many damn rights?

This does make any sense.

America should learn from China.

No matter what the crime, no matter whether there is a miscarriage of justice or not, within 2 weeks from the first trial -- for shoplifting, child porn, murder, or defamation of the President, the punishment should be A BULLET IN THE NECK.

With a fully-staffed trailer right there in the sports stadium to harvest all the convict's organs for sale to the highest bidder.

Not all jail systems give inmates leisure and luxury. Here in arizona our sherrif Arpio lets them have a community tv that airs only educational shows, they get two meals a day, radios they have to buy not given to them, no library but they can have books/magazines mailed to them from a bookstore not by family, no desks, and we have tent city which is bunks outside no matter the weather. They have a work furlow program if approved can leave the jail daily for work. It's not one of the luxury systems here as in other states. Just remember that our jails are for first to third time offenders and the fourth time or harder criminals are in prison. The government sets people to be in jail. Most inmates wouldn't be there if they didn't sell drugs, rob or commit other crimes to make a living with the increase of cost of living and the government refusing to increase minimum wage. I am by no means defending what they do as I live poorly and commit these crimes but some people are weaker than others.

you actually think that prisoners have it comfortable?
you obviously have never been to jail, or even spent overnight in a holding cell I'm assuming - probably watching too much Nancy Grace

more often than not prisoners have to earn the privledges such as viewing TV in a common room, or access to a library (what's wrong with an inmate trying to educate himself and better himself for when he gets out?) you want him to stay stuck where he is socially or educationally so he just commits another crime?
good behavior earns rewards - just like in school, you remember that don't you? why shouldnt non-violent prisoners or those serving non-felony terms have some possessions or tools to better themselves

Nice desks? you think they each have a oak rolltop desk with multiple drawers, quit watching TV and movies.

Inmates have rights because they are STILL citizens and have certain protections under the Constitution and Bill of Rights

you are either a teenager or an ignorant conservative lemming

they may be criminals- but they are serving their debt or punishment ot society and should be treated as humans, not animals. If you treat them like animals, then they'll BE animals when they are released into society - and most likely will have higher recidivism (look it up)

We are the good guys. Things like this get out of control because we wanted to make sure that we didn't have the torturous conditions in our jails that many countries have.
I agree that it has gone too far. I remember how there were times that I didn't have cable, didn't use my air conditioning, and many other nice things that I considered luxuries because I couldn't afford it, but yet every paycheck there were $100 or more taken out of my check to provide those luxuries to inmates or people that don't work at all.---Sorry, didn't mean to rant there.

Where are you getting your information?

In Texas, inmates have the right to one form of media, three meals a day based on current nutritional standards, limited postal correspondence, legal access, and a minimum of three hours a week of sunlight (outdoors) and one hour each day our of their cells. As far as putting hands on an inmate, if an inmate is uncooperative, then yes a corrections officer can force them to comply.

TV, radios, commissary, phone, visitation, etc. are all privileges. This is added leverage when an inmate decides they don't wish to follow the rules.

It's because of a thing called the Constitution which states, "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of the law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." Just because they are locked up for crimes (not everyone in jail/prison is guilty) they still get many of the same rights as free citizens do. If they are denied any rights, they can file suit for violation of their constitutional rights.

I agree with you....My husband is also a CO in max prison and says the same thing...It is sad...and for you people downing this question.....A CO is around these inmates for many hours a day...They see what is going on...they dont have to spend time in jail to know what it is like to be an inmate....all these murdering people and baby rapers should pay for there crimes...not be catered too

I don't know which state you are talking about. My brother is in prison, and let me tell it is not an easy ride. They feed them a sort of beef substitute that has now been outlawed due to severe side effects. They have no a/c no heat, so even if its 100 degrees or 30 they are either sweating up a storm or freezing to death with just a thin little sheet to cover up with. They have to eat breakfast, if they wish at 4:00 in the morning, and dinner is at 4:00 in the afternoon. Every time we go visit him, when we leave he is then strip searched before being allowed back to his cell. I could go on and on, but I suggest maybe you do a little more research. Believe me they are treated like animals here.

They have rights just like animals in a zoo. Animals have a right to be fed. Most prisoners have mental disorders and need help. Have U read the bible.
