IRAN also has the support of Russia and China, who won't support real sanctions on Iran. Even most European nations want a negotiated compromise. What should we do? The fear card is the only weapon to try But we may corner ourselves into some rash military action on Iran which may look Iraq and Afghanistan like picnics. .

Iran holds all the aces in this game. Nobody has bombs powerful enough save nukes to dig out the vast under ground complexes housing this program. Not only are they huge they are spread out and we don't know where they all are. Then even if you hit them they still have the know how they will just rebuild again with even better precautions to protect them. I also doubt they will just cry and roll over they will shut off there oil exports drive up gas to $5.00 per gallon. They may also fire there cruise and scud missiles at the oil refineries in the gulf and sink any tanker that tries to enter the gulf. The Iranians can't lose unless they choose to lose. Another wild card might be they could give terrorist plutonium for a dirty bomb do wish to drive them in that corner? There are toooo many stupid people with simplistic and not very thoughtful answers to real problems that require finesse not the redneck answer to anything they don't like NUKE "EM"!!!!! That retarded view is what got us into our current messes.

Iran is still years away from developing a nuclear weapon. Even once they develop one it is highly unlikely that they'll use it.............as long as they understand the consequences of using it. If they understand that using such a weapon will prompt a massive retaliation in response which will simply mean the end of their nation, then the odds of them using a nuclear weapon becomes pretty much nil.

It's the same situation that's prevented any of the other nations that have nuclear weapons from using them, the same concept that prevented the US and USSR from ever engaging in a nuclear exchange.......mutually assured destruction. Except in this case the only assured destruction will be that of Iran and nobody else.

As sad as this sounds there will come a time when we (the US) will be forced into a large scale, global conflict. A third world war as the news has been calling it. It is not a question of if we are going to have to but rather when and at what level of fighting- conventional or nuclear. It will bring us back to the time of WWII with rationing of food, metals, and fuels. The draft will be reinstated for both male and female and we can expect attacks on the continental US of significant proportions. I give it less than 10 years.

I can't say I blame a country for wanting what most other countries already have which is a cheap energy source through Nuclear power production.

You can't tell a whole Country what it can or can't do. Who the hell is America to say who can procure nuclear energy for peaceful power production. Iraq just wants to save what Oil it has left to sell for export because when their oil is used up they got nothing to trade but sand and no one needs a bunch of sand. If a country has nothing to trade it will starve and I don't see a bunch of people standing around starving if they have weapons.

The fear card is worthless. It will do one of two things. It will cause them to fight or to rebel because they are not going to run and neither would we.

The NPT allows them to possess nulcear technology (which i agree they have the right) but only for civilian use
If they will not allow inspections then they must suffer sanctions because they already admit they want Israel destroyed.
There should be a political solution to this but we cannot afford the wait and see mentality.
Remember WWII let us never forget what happens with wait and see or lets not get involved.

Becauase they pretty much cannot lose.

Anything less than their complete annihilation allows them to claim either political or ideological victory over their attackers.
