Yes. I'll tell you EXACTLY what it is. Hands down.
What did Jesus refer too it as? What was the first name?
Acts. Ch.2 "PENTECOST".
ALL Christians are of the what? "Pentecost" church.
End of story. The original "church" is "Pentecost"
It wasn't until after, the Day of Pentecost, the term "Christian" was used 3 times in the New Testament.
Now. a Christian was known as a "Pentecostal, a member of the "Pentecost".
This is NOT..a "PLUG"...for Pentecostal Churches...OK?
GREAT...Question.
I need your email addy. I will forward a BIG Cheese Pizza to you. :)
( only if ya share) :)P

Roman Catholic is the church that evolved out of the Christianity that the apostles preached in the first century. To many people, the evolution into the present-day church has not been for the better.
By the way, if you decide to take Make Sure's suggestion and read Mankind's Search for God published by the Watchtower Society, you should know that although it does present some facts about the world's major religions, it is basically an attempt by the Watchtower to put all religions - except theirs -under a microscope and magnify their flaws, thus leaving you only one choice for the true religion - theirs.
Make Sure says that it just reports the 'facts" but neglects to mention that most of the facts presented are carefully selected to substantiate the Watchtower point of view, while many other pertinent and relevant facts are ignored altogether.
As an example, in speaking of "Peter and the Papacy" on page 268, the reader is given several reasons to doubt "that Peter was regarded as having primacy among his peers." While I do not agree that Peter was the first pope, I think that an honest examination of the Scriptures would find SOMEsupport for the idea that Peter WAS regarded as the primary apostle. The book makes no mention of these facts:
1. The name Peter (also called Cephas) occurs in Scripture more than twice as many times as James who (along with John) are named by Jehovah's Witnesses as the apostles more likely to have "primacy".
2. In the book of Acts, Peter and John are mentioned in conjunction with each other in about seven places. The expression is "always Peter and John", not "John and Peter". And most revealing is the fact that
3. The term "Peter and the other apostles", in Acts 2:37 and Acts 5:29, indicates that Peter was apparently foremost among the apostles.
So if you decide to read the book, don't think you're reading an unbiased presentation of facts. In Watchtower literature which is known for its manipulation of the truth by presenting half-truths, the facts that are omitted are often as important as the facts that are presented

Are you trying to confuse me? Christianity of course. The term Catholic was used shortly after Christianity started to officially organize to control gnostic heresy. Catholic simply means "concerning the whole". It comes from the Greek word katholikos, which means universal. There were too many sub-groups such as the Gnostics running around changing scripture and forging new ones, such as the Gospel of Thomas, and the Gospel of Judas. These Gnostic scriptures didn't agree with the Gospels which were written during the lifetimes of the original Apostles, so the 2nd generation apostles organized into what became known as the Catholic church in order to preserve the original message.

Orthodox Christians, not Russian, not Greek , ALL of the orthodox church. the Catholics split off in 1054 over doctrines, but both can trace their begining to the apostles and Christ him self.

The first disciples who followed Jesus were the original group known as "Christians". In fact, the term "Christian" was given to His followers by the non-believers. The were true Christians because they worshiped the way Jesus taught them to worship (in spirit and in truth). Many of us have lost the freedom to praise and worship the Lord the way Jesus taught us.

Maybe Judaism. It preceded the New Testament yet they believed in Christ and God.If you don't agree with this then the next in line would be the church's of Antioch ,Corinth, and others in Rome which were established and morally supported by the Apostle Paul.
