As far as the hygiene goes, people are ignorant and they think cornrows are dirty. They don't realize that cornrows can be washed.

For those people who are blessed with straight hair, it's just easier to maintain.

I have wavy to curly hair which I do not straighten.

I don't have cornrows because it is not simple to do and maintain. Also, as a hispanic, I couldn't get away with it and be perceived as "professional" at work. That just the way our country is.

Unfortunately, I think only people who are (or look) African-American can wear cornrows and still be considered "professional" at work, at sometimes it still isn't acceptable.

i believe there is a stigma with cornrows and braids...in a coorporate/professional job, some employers will not allow these hairstyles to be worn by males or females....this includes loc'ed hair too. so that could be one reason cornrows are not seen more often...

i love cornrows, and believe they are beautiful if they are taken care of (like all hairstyles should be...lol...even straight hair can be gross in it is unkept and not regularly washed and maintaned)

just my opinion... : >

I see cornrows all the time where I live. I like cornrows, but you really have to keep them looking good. My mother had really pretty corn rows for my brother's wedding. They are neatly done, and the extensions look like her real hair.

It depends on where you live... I don't see the problem with them as long as you keep them neat and don't let the new growth get longer than 1/2 inch.

It's just a personal opinion, but I think cornrows look gross and dirty.

It's because it takes a long time to actually get it done. And then the hygiene factor is there.
