yes you train the dog by taking him outside about every half hour or when he wakes up or after he eats. When he does go to the bathroom outside, tell him hes a good boy/girl which ever the case maybe. then give the dog a treat. this should potty train him in about a week or so..good luck..also crate trainning isnt mean, my dog goes in a crate when I leave the house and she just thinks that is "her space of her own" and she never minds going in there.

Yes, you can potty train a dog in several ways. As long as you make sure to keep taking the dog to a "potty area" that you designate, use a key word or phrase when the dog "goes," like "go potty," or "hurry up," then PRAISE the dog & possibly give it a small treat when it goes to the bathroom outside, if you are consistent, it will work. But remember that you MUST also restrict the dog from roaming around indoors, because it's hard or impossible to supervise a dog every second, & the dog is likely to go to some remote corner of the house & use that area as its indoor bathroom, if nobody is there to see that it "needs to go" & take it out. People have many different ideas about housebreaking. Personally, & in my experience & advice I have gotten from lifetime "dog people," I think crate training can be good, & not mean at all. The idea behind it is that dogs are descended from wolves & are den-dwelling animals. They instinctively like having a sheltered, den-like place of their own, & they will try their best to keep this den area clean. The crate becomes a positive place, a "den" for the dog. A dog who is given a crate that is big enough for him / her to stand, sit, lie down, & turn around in it, who is given meals, treats, toys, & rest time in the crate, who is never put into the crate as punishment or dragged into the crate, & who is let out of the crate at least every few hours, on a regular schedule, to go outside to the bathroom, is NOT being treated cruelly. Its housebreaking will go quickly, & the dog will not wander unsupervised & get into the trash, chew the furniture, or have "accidents" on your carpets. Once a dog has gone to the bathroom in the house, it's hard to totally remove the scent from that spot. Remember, dogs have MUCH better noses than we do, & they are stimulated to relieve themselves in places that smell from before. So, using a crate (or a baby gate, or an exercise pen, or anything other than closing a door in the dog's face) to keep the dog in one area of the house is HELPFUL. When someone is there to WATCH the dog, the dog can be free to walk around, play, etc.. But when everyone has to go out to work, school, etc., or when everyone is asleep, how will the dog get out every half hour? If you can do it, great! If not, then please consider humane, fair use of a crate, or at least a baby gate, exercise pen, etc.. Good luck, & enjoy your dog!

yes you can thats a very good pattern. they will get used to their feet feeling grass to "go" on. and creat training is not mean if done well. open creat door all day when you are there too and only close door after lights out. the pup will feel very secure there. i have 4 great danes and 3 creats . they rush there to make sure they get a vreat b/c the last one sleeps in a doggie bed beside the creats and they all prefer being in the creats.you make it the happy place and give treats there and never punish them there. and they use it as their "den"and they wont pee in their den!

yes, make sure you tell him how proud of him you are though, every time he goes potty. Also if he goes in the house make sure he knows he did a bad thing.
