Pit Bulls unfairly have a bad reputation. People forget it is usually people who make the dog that way. Its unfair to say that all pit bulls are bad just like it unfair to say all of a certain race of people are bad. My pit bull is the sweetest dog and would not hurt a fly. There are several other breeds that are extremely aggressive and temper mental. I had an Akita that hated humans yet everyone wanted to hug and pet him, in the long run he snapped and tore a family member to pieces. Akitas are great dogs but are known to be aggressive. I did not blame him or the breed I blamed his previous owners for improperly raising him.

Had a sweetheart of a pit bull once. Best dog ever. Have seen standard Poodles that you couldn't turn your back on so breed doesn't matter that much. Any dog raised to be mean, will be mean. If you've seen Animal Planet, you know that some cities euthanize pits just because they are pits and I disagree with that approach. Each individual dog needs to be evaluated without any bias one way or the other.

I don't hate pitbulls, but if you look at the facts, they are one of the breeds most likely to turn on a person or another animal. (Study up on the statistics) People act like it's sacralidge to say that, but it's backed up by facts. Why is it taboo to acknowledge an animals instincts? Pitbulls have also been more heavily imbred than some other breeds, in order to intentionally keep these dogs "pure" and use them for attack purposes. This can lead to them being more unstable.

Obviously not every pitbull will turn on a human in their lives, but many cities aren't willing to put children at risk so that people can raise animals that are high risk. Why do you think most wild animals aren't allowed in the city limits without special permits?

It frightens me reading all these ignorant answers on here about the APBT.If you can't give a educated answer then please don't. Some niave person will come along and believe your bashing and ignorance as gospel. That's scary. Before you spew some more uneducated statements or answers ,read up on the breed at breed specific forums or books.

The reason why this breed is so misunderstood is because of pure breed ignorance.I read some ones statement about the breed having locking jaws. Pits can not physically lock their jaws.
They are tenacious ,hence the reason why they are stronger in holding on.They don't have magical powers to lock their jaws.

Either they have never known one or they have only been exposed to pits who were taught to fight. I have a pit; as you said he is the sweetest most affectionate dog I have ever had. He is also great around other dogs (and cats). In fact, I have a German shepherd with an attitude problem (she's a rescue)... she has picked many fights with the pit and if she goes at him... my pit sits there and cries. He has never shown any aggression to the shepherd or any other dog.... we have raised him since he was a puppie with love.

They are bred to be agressive, but with proper training they are fine. The problem is many ghetto-a** people own pitbulls because that's the thing to do, and they don't spend the time to train them right OR they purposefully train them to be agressive and fight. And so, they have a negative image. It's not the dog's fault, it's the owner's.

The #1 dog that bites people are acutally Cocker Spaniels, but that never makes the news. Blame it on the media...you only see dog attacks when there's a pit bull terrier involved...

Pitbulls tend to be more aggressive and dangerous than other breeds. Stereotypes derive partially from fact. When was the last time you saw a golden retriever chew off the face of a 2 year old child? And yes Cocker Spaniels DO bite, but they don't have the ability to grab a small child or other animal around the throat and hang on until they are dead. There is a difference between a dog that BITES and one that ATTACKS. of course you can't tell Pit Bull owners that.. they think the dogs are perfectly safe and wonderful family pets.

I have met great pit-bulls and I have met insane pit-bulls, and it wasn't they way they were raised. The two dogs had been raised by the same family. One was an affectionate doll. One wanted to rip off a leg. These dogs had learned to climb the fence. No one in the neighborhood was safe with that menace roaming the streets. He never behaved that way when his owners were around. He cornered me in my garage one day while i still had the door open. Not fun.

I don't HATE pitbulls, but I do fear them. They can tear me apart. Plus, with all the news reports about pitbulls biting people. Hahaha. Also, the name "pitbull". C'mon. If the pitbull were named something less intimidating (like poodle) or something, maybe they wouldn't be so feared. Yes, I agree that if you KNOW the dog and the dog KNOWS you, they are great lil pups. But, a stange pitbull I try to stay away from...

p.s. great handle & pic (hehehe)
