Is abstinance the best? Why has our culture changed in this aspect so much in the last 100 years? Has our culture gotten better or worse because of this change?

Abstinance is best.

Culture has changed drastically around 1965 with the many inventions of birth control (abortion, birth control pills, condums, diaphrames, etc).

In my opinion, culture has gotten much worse. When hanging out, so many young women (18-25) loath kids ... they all seem to think kids are harmful and will destroy them. They seem to seek a life of lonliness over family and working for love.

When a bride and groom stand at the altar and declare their consent before the Church, it's not merly a formal recognition of something that already exists between them. At the moment they give their consent, bride and groom are fundamentally changed. They BECOME right then and there (and only right then and there) husband and wife. What did not exist five minutes beforedoes exist now - a marital bond sealed byt he Holy Spirit that, once consummated, can never be dissolved by anything but death.

Sexual intercourse is the expression of this bond. It's the visible sign of this invisible reality. If this bond doesn't exist between a man and a woman, sexual intercourse between them is utterly void of its raison d'etre.

First of all, sex is overrated.
Waiting until marriage means you don't have to take birth control and mess with your hormones, gain weight, etc. It also means that you don't have to worry about pregnancy, std's, or sti's. When you wait, you won't regret it because the man will truly love you and you will be his wife - you won't just be some girl he bangs and then moves on to another girl a month later. So many girls have sex in their teens and they have major issues emotionally and with relationships for the rest of their lives because of it.
Our society has changed because now we've come to a point where there are hardly any morals left. There is sex everywhere and teen sex is accepted. It's very sad that people just don't care who is having sex, they just care that they are using condoms or birth control.

Well if you wait until your married to have sex, and if this action leads to the birth of a baby (no birth control is 100% effective ) then there is a. committment of parents to try stay together to raise this child. If a child is born out of 'wedlock", then it is easier for either parent to leave the relationship and have the child raised but only one parent-- which makes it harder emotionally and financially for the child.
Since more people are having sex before marriage- in some communities (i'm a pediatrician in one of them) more children are being raised by single parents- this causes the child to have less structure in their lives and to have more financial hardships.
That's the nuts and bolts of it---

Yes it is. Because when the AIDS academic explosion came out in the mid 1980s, people needed to be careful. Plus it's to prevent unwanted pregnancy like for teens. That's why Catholics believe in no premaritial sex until you're married. It's best to wait until you're married, to lose your virginity to someone you love, withot the risk of AIDS and pregnancy. But if you want to have a baby, it's got to be with your husband. So if you don't want to use abstinance, protect yourself with condoms for him and her, spermicide, and birth control pills. And get tested for AIDS/HIV too, other than for pregnancy after it happens.

I don't think there are any good reasons to wait. Sex is great...why would you want to miss out on it? Life's too short.

1. It's in the Bible, if you're a believer that is.
2. Just makes it special. You're not giving your virginity to just anybody, you're giving it to your husband.
