unless he has been seeing a groomer from a young age; this can be stressful on a pet for the first time. which would explain the eat/drinking.
the itching could be an allergic reaction; they do offer bendryl in a cream form; and spray. depending on your dogs weight - would very the amount of ingestiable allergy medication he should take.
things to ask your self ...
... do you see any noticeable redness (besides from scratching) hives welts .. etc?
... is the dog laboring to breath? some reactions can be internal?
... when was his last bowel movement?

allergies can also cause a dog stress ... home remedy is good for the first fews hours - if conditions worse - i would contact your vet. if the treatment is working .. in a couple of days i would do a follow up with your vet.

Call the dog groomer and ask whether there were any incidents during the grooming. Your dog may be feeling unwell, fearful or anxious. You need to find out why. Next time, consider taking him to a different groomer.

Sounds like he is having an allergic reaction to the shampoo the groomer used. You can give the dog Benadryl. You'll need to ask the vet for the correct dosage though.

He is probably allergic to the shampoo they used on him. That's pretty common actually. I suggest you put him in the bath tub and rinse him off REALLY well.
