I think it depends on the mother. Should the Dad support the kid? YES! ..But, the problem is, often times the money doesn't always go to the children. Dad should pay it as long as he knows it's going to the kid. (this includes food, clothes, dentist stuff/doctor stuff, extracurricular activities - if mom can afford the food and clothes no problem and the parents are okay with them going into an activity/sport) If the kids are stuck wearing clothes that don't fit and crummy shoes, or not getting enough to eat, then maybe he shouldn't be paying it, because obviously the kids aren't benefitting from the money.

Well, firstly, I think that shows a lack of responsibility. It took two people for that child to be conceived and the mother of that child aught to be able to depend on the father for support.
Secondly, this is really a consequence of having sex before marriage. A child needs a mother and a father. Unfortunately, many (not all) children born out of wedlock end up suffering because of their parents lack of self-control.

My son's father is a deadbeat. He only contributed to the family when I was with him. Soon as I left, all feeling for my son and monetary help went out the window. I do not agree with the posting that it "costs money" to take a deadbeat to court! It costs nothing! Who says you need a lawyer? I took my son's father to court and won. I also won custody. I suggest to go for custody if you are unable to get support.
A deadbeat father is a waste of sperm. I focus on my son and what he will become; I show him what being a good person is all about.

I think they are the worst type of person. How could you create a child and then leave them to rot? It is so irresponsible. Even if you hate the mother, the child deserves more. It is not the child's fault that you and the mother don't get along or whatever the reason for leaving was. They deserve to grow up without having to worry about money.

I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF A 10 YR. OLD. THE FATHER BARELY SUPPORTS HER.
PERSONALLY, I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR TO ME OR MY CHILD. I WORK EVERYDAY, SOMETIMES OVERTIME. I MAKE DECENT SALARY TO SUPPORT US, SO WE ARE OKAY FINANCIALLY. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I CAN'T DO EVERYTHING ON MY OWN.
IN 10 YRS. I CAN TELL YOU EVERYTHING THE FATHER HAS DONE FOR MY CHILD, WHICH WASN'T MUCH. HE DOESN'T WORK, AND IF HE DOES, HE QUITS AFTER A FEW WEEKS. HE LIVES AT HOME WITH HIS GRANDMA AND SHE IS ON A FIXED INCOME. SHE ONLY HAS ENOUGH TO PAY BILLS. SHE CAN'T EVEN AFFORD HER MEDS. HE WON'T HELP HER EITHER. HE IS VERY SELFISH.
I HAVE A SUPPORT ORDER ON HIM THAT'S OVER $14,000 IN ARREARS. HE TOOK ME TO COURT MORE THAN ONCE TO GET IT LOWERED. IT WENT FROM $82 TO $50 TO $35 A WEEK. WE WENT TO COURT IN AUGUST BUT THE COURT DENIED HIS REQUEST TO LOWER IT AGAIN. KEEP IN MIND, HE'S NOT PAYING THE $35 HE'S CURRENTLY ORDERED TO PAY. BY THE WAY, HE RECENTLY HAD A 2ND CHILD THAT IS A YEAR OLD. HE AND THE MOTHER ARE ON WELFARE. THEY BOTH STAY WITH HIS GRANDMA.
HE BLAMES SOCIETY ON THE REASON HE CAN'T GET AHEAD. HE DROPPED OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AND THE GED PROGRAM. HE DROPPED OUT OF AUTO MECHANIC SCHOOL, COMPUTER TECH SCHOOL, AND SOME OTHER PROGRAM HE WAS IN. HE IS A 32 YEAR OLD DEADBEAT WITH NO FUTURE.
I DON'T LIKE LOW-LIFES WHO DON'T SUPPORT THEIR CHILDREN. IN MY CASE, THE COURT SYSTEM IS MORE ON HIS SIDE THAN MINES, WHICH IS NOT FAIR TO ME AND MY DAUGHTER. MEN LIKE THAT AREN'T EVEN WORTH GOING TO JAIL. IN THE END, MY TAX MONEY WILL BE SUPPORTING HIM AND IT'S ALREADY SUPPORTING HIS WELFARE BENEFITS.

The ssn of all delinquent non-custodial parents should be placed on a government website that will alert the ag's office each time he/she changes employment, thereby giving easier access to tracking their income and addresses for service as necessary, and a bill should be drafted to fine employers of such delinquent parent if found that wages are being paid without reporting them

Ok touchy subject. My husband and I paid child support for my stepson til he was 5. We got custody of him. We never want her money. Our arrangement now is when he's with you you pay and when he's with her she pays. Thats how it should be if you have joint custody. Thats just to sum it up
When we paid child support is when he wore all the crummy clothing, she would never use it for what she should have.

dead beat dads are need to be castrated... if you make the child support the child... if you don't want children then don't have sex... there are no such things as accidents.... you took the chance and now you must pay... but then if you don't think its your child demand DNA test...
