whatever best suits your lifestyle! Everyone has oppinions so go out and look at some and form your own! pretty much all cars are 4 door now a days. just have to see what you are comfortable in. If you are buying from a dealer ask for a car fax, if they won't give you one then look at another dealer. good luck on the $5000 or less, very hard to find. Stay away from the corner lots those are the cars reputable dealers wholesale because they have many problems. take it to a mechanic and make sure you can afford the repairs before you buy. Pretty much every car in that price range is going to have some kind of problem. If you find a perfect one you'll be lucky!

1. Safety! Safety! Safety! Get the safest you can afford.
2. You could probably get a good deal at a police, or car auction on a Volvo 240 series — 4 door. It would have to be at least 10 years old. Volvo is now American owned, so an older one will guarantee the Swedish steel & 40 lbs. of paint and safety.
3. These autos have deep trunks, very comfortable & stable performance. You can find them in stick or automatic drive.
4. If not that, then an older Mercedes.
5. Point is safety. These older cars are built like tanks & are eleagant to drive.
6. If you and your friends are into cars, you could add a few bells & whistles to the interior sound, etc.

1980 cadillac fleetwood brougham should be a good choice since you only have 5000 maybe your best choice would be to use the 5000 on a downpayment and get a newer mercedes
