No, that person is wrong...you CAN turn off an airbag. Last September I was in a bad car accident and when I came home, I was reading these inofrmation sheets they gave me for "at home care" and it said to turn off air bags in the cars I was riding in. I guess because I was so fragile and still healing and an air bag would have probably injured me more seriously if one had gone off while I was riding in the car. I would look in the car's information book or look it up online.
If your car is new enough, it may already have a switch somewhere under the dash or close by to turn it off. If there isn't one, you can have one installed. Good luck.

Yes and no you can turn off the pass side A/B but not the drivers.and to turn it off you will have to jump through alot of hoops with the NTSB and give them a real good reason why. I have installed one pass cut off switch on a Honda Del Sol and that because it was a two seat car with a newborn baby and I had to remove that system when the lady wanted to sell the car. After i remove the switch i had to ship the parts back to Honda.

You cannot turn it off. There would be little point in this safety feature if it could be disabled. You should also note that it is illegal to disable an airbag. In some instances you can get a certificate to allow you do so.

Pickup trucks have the airbag off feature because too many small children sitting in front seats were killed by airbags.

SUVs do not have that feature because they have back seats.
