I have suffered from anorexia for 3 years now and have been in the 'recovery' stage for about two fhtem. I am much better but still struggling on with this illnes. I definitely do't see it leaving me completely and am worried that this is my life from now on (I am only 22). I am in therapy, which helps, but do you think I am stuck with this forever? Has anyone completely recovered and now living as they were before they had it?

I have had anorexia for 12 / 13 years, now and in that time have met many other anorexics. I hate to put a dampner on things, but as far as I have seen / experienced, there is very rarely a full recovery from Anorexia. The "voice" is always there, sometimes as a whisper, other times screaming and shouting like a crazed maniac.
I believe some of us are born pre-disposed to eating disorders, and certain life events trigger full blown anorexia (or bulimia / Compulsive eating). If there are times in pur lives when anorexia is not at its` strongest / we are`nt at our weakest, we should just try to enjoy it while it lasts, since it`s pretty unlikely it will last forever.
I really hope your therapy is helpful, and you prove me wrong.

Anorexia seems like a grief for childhood, for simplicity and for the child within to be nurtured. Your grief will lessen, and you will find happiness because you are here to tell the tale.. The downs will not be so low, and you will see the light at the end of all this.

I admire your bravery, and I see how far you have come, but I do know people who have come through this and are living normal lives with children and husbands. Bless You.

well done on getting where you are. I've been a long time bulimic sufferer... some days are better than others, but I don't think you ever get rid of the voice.... keep on with the therapy though, I found it helped me big time... good luck to you x

Do not feel disappointed, but the answer is NO, You will learn to live with that, and given time, it will not be there constantly, just when you associate something you see or do or hear.
But the more you accept that, the less burdon it will be. If you can be proud of your self, and give yourself a good feeling... every time it pops up, answer in your had, I am so good, I can do it, but I wont! And listen to the compliments you get, of people who admire you for wanting to stop that killing you LISTEN!

No once you meet someone and they show you the meaning of love. You will leave all this behind you. Most people i have seen with anorexia are beautiful and i bet you are too.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY believe that you can fully recover, with no "voices" or remnants leftover.

I work with women with eating disorders, and have seen many of them fully recover. In addition, I have friends who are fully recovered.

Hang in there. It takes time to fade.
