There is a clear, puss-like fluid flowing slowly out of my cat's eyes. He seems to keep closing every few moments. I think it may be conjunctivitis. My mom has some antibiotic eye drops that she uses when she gets pinkeye. Should I give it to him,or forget it?

If this just started happening, he may have a scratched cornea. It probably isn't infected yet since the watering is clear, but it is still a good idea to go the the vet. However, if you really don't have the money (or your mom refuses to let you take the cat to the vet) and those eye drops are unopened, you can try it for one day, one drop 3 times/day, and see if they help. But if your mom used them, she may have accidentally touched them to her eye, and then you could wind up giving the cat an infection by using them.

If you do try them, please still take the cat to the vet if the eye doesn't seem better after a day because eye infections always seem to improve quickly with the use of antibiotics, and a scratch may need further treatment. It is possible for untreated eye issues to become ulcers of the cornea which are very painful.

If that ever happens with a cat, ignore any advice to put the cat down, though, because some vets just don't know how to treat such those ulcers. There are veterinary eye specialists, believe it or not, and they can save eyes from quite a bit of damage. This is just for future reference, though. This sounds like a very standard problem and I'm sure your vet can help.

The other option, if it isn't a scratch and isn't an infection, is that cats can get a type of herpes in their eyes. Don't worry, it isn't a type that humans catch, and I don't really know how they get it. If that turns out to be the problem, then giving the cat some l-lysine orally can help. Not all vets know about that because not all vets deal with natural supplements, but that treatment is fairly standard. If you need more information about that, a web search should give it to you, or you can email me.

Good luck.

Upper respitory infections cause eye discharge is your cat sneezing? Either way the cat must be seen by a vet.

I got identified with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about 4 years back, whilst I was still in college and had a dumb one-night stand. I realize loads of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone who has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/vQgCZ everything changed.

Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the herpes virus from my body in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just last week, in front of everybody in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This system provided me the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.

Well, don't forget it. Take your cat to a vet, they'll treat your cat. It could be something more serious than pinkeye, it could be something less serious. But the best way to know is to get professional medical attention for the cat.

defiantely dont give your cat your moms medicine but you can just keep washing your cats eyes with a warm wash rag that will help alot. or if that doesnt work i would take your cat to that vet because it may need a antibiotic. good luck!

Sure sounds like the cat needs to see the vet if the discharge is pusey.

Please don't use any human medication on a cat unless a vet gives you the go-ahead. Many of the human meds we use are terribly toxic to cats.
