Join the crowd - I wake up with a headache at least 3 or 4 times a week - and only on one side of the head. It'll cost a lot of money to find out why so I just deal with it and take a couple Advil's, Aleve, what ever - as soon as I get out of bed, if not before.

Do you drink a lot of caffeine during the day? Caffeine withdrawal headaches can mimic migraines at times.
If you sleep on the right side a lot, the person with the sinus answer may be right or you are putting pressure on a nerve on that side during your sleep.
Might check out a chiropractor. Mine helped a lot. Not perfect - but a difference.

Morning headaches are very commonly caused by bruxism, or teeth grinding, during the night. When you wake up, does your jaw feel stiff or achey at all?
Your dentist can fit you with a mouth guard that prevents your teeth from making contact while you are sleeping. This will help.

It may be your neck. You may want to figure out if it's muscular (see a massage therapist) or vertebrae/skeletal (see a chiropractor) or do a combintation of both.
Look at your sleeping arrangement. Try sleeping on the floor for 1 night with no pillows and see if that straightens it out. If it does - you need to adjust your bed/pillows and may consider massage/chiropracty. If that doesn't work - see a primary care physician.

Make sure you don't sleep with the covers over your head. Have a snack before going to bed that has some protein (meat or vegetable) in it and very little carbohydrate.
If the snack solves the problem, you may want to check out www.hufa.org for other symptoms of low blood sugar.
