Hey everyone.

I'm a new driver. I was wondering what kind of advices or tips can you give me.

More or less tell me what you would tell to your own kids and what you could tell to every new drier out there (good and bad).

Thank you in advance.

Reduce distractions.

#1 No talking on your cell when you're driving
#2 Keep the music down - it is also a distraction
#3 No more than 1 friend in the car... your friends may not mean to but, they are distracting you.

Watch your following distance

As someone else says, presume everyone else is an idiot. If the light is red, it doesn't mean that someone will stop. Just because a turn signal is on, it doesn't mean that the person is turning. Presume nothing about the other driver's intentions.

Drive more cautiously around large vehicles ...(than cars and light trucks) ...like 18-wheelers, buses and especially RVs.

If you can't see the face of the driver of a large vehicle in their mirror they can not see you! NEVER tailgate, especially a big-rig...the driver can't see you right behind their trailer. There are also 'blind spots' in places all around a large vehicle. You don't want to be caught in a place where the driver won't be able to see you if they need to change lanes or turn a corner.

NEVER cut off a big rig. Their sheer weight keeps them from being able to stop as fast as you can. Their braking systems are also very different than a car's. Cars have hydrolic brakes. Hydrolic brakes work faster because fluid moves faster to the touch of a brake pedal stopping the car faster. Big rigs' brakes are AIR Brakes. While air brakes ARE *stronger* than hydrolic brakes (which is WHY they are on tractor-trailers) air can take a few seconds longer to make the brakes actuate once the driver depresses their brake pedal making their stopping distance longer. You definitely don't want to have to stop short in front of a large vehicle because they simply do not have the capability of a car to stop as fast.

When you see a large vehicle trying to make a turn stay BEHIND that vehicle even though it may be in another lane. That rig is so long the driver has no choice but to swing wide in order to make that turn. You don't want to be in the way of the back of the vehicle when it makes the turn because the turning radius of the back is smaller that the front of the vehicle. There have been NUMEROUS incidents where cars were beside a tractor-trailer (mostly in one of it's blind spots) and the car got hit or even ran over by the back of the large vehicle or trailer of a truck.

Remember that you are driving a lethal weapon and take that responsibility seriously. Slow down and be aware of the others on the road. Don't follow to closely to others, it can save your life to be an extra car length or two behind someone else.

The best advice I was given when I first began driving was:

Assume all other road users are idiots.

If you keep this in your mind when driving, then you will always be aware of other drivers.

Happy driving.

Just take your time and if you get spooked just slow it down. Oh and don't let the other drivers intimidate you.
