In Sanskrit VIGHN means obstacles. The suffix -ESH means God. This suffix can be found in many Hindu names. It means "the god of..." So VIGHNESH means the God who removes all the obstacles.
The Hindu deity Lord Ganesha is called by this name. He has many more names like, Vinayaka, Ganpati, etc. Each name means something or other. The God is recognzied by the face of the elephant and a mouse accompanying him.
Now, in Tamil script there are no letters for voiced sounds, or voiced aspirated sounds. So, in place of G, GH and K, Tamil uses K in writing. So the word VIGHNESH became VIKNESH in written Tamil.
Spoken Tamil takes all the sounds in consideration through sophisticated phonological linguistic rules.

In Hindu Mythology there are lot of goods and goddesses. Each of them gave lot of name, some even 1008 names each.
VIKNESH - In Tamil it is written like this but the actual pronunciation is VIGNESH - another name for Lord Ganesha the Elephant headed God. Meaning of Vignam is "without any hurdle/obstacle/flaw" - so Vignesh is remover of all these bad things.
