Okay, I don't give my kids tons of junk, but this is one thing I would NEVER feed my kids since I heard this story. My DH has done electrical work since he was a kid helping his dad, before he ever got his own license. He told me that just once, when he was 17, there was a job the two turned around and walked out of. This was an applesauce factory. He named the company at the time but I can't recall which, only that it was a big one. Apparently there were maggots on the conveyor belts, falling into the vats, getting ground up with the applesauce, and the consumers never the wiser. I asked, "Aren't there inspections?" He says apparently it is cheaper to pay off the inspectors than to clean up. He says he and his dad were so sick at what they saw that they turned around and walked out, and that this is the only job they have ever walked out of. So, my question is, how can people eat that stuff, much less feed it to innocent kids and feel PROUD of giving it to them?

Well to be honest you have to look at it on a larger scale. A lot of factory/warehouses are like that. Not to mention meats, produce and other food are very, heavily overprocessed now. And that's to say the least. Something so simple as margarine is one ingredient away from being plastic. This doesn't even touch most of the other bads out there. Do you have any idea, and maybe you do, of how many things most of us consume that have ingredients in them (including that of insects) you wouldn't feed to your worst enemy? If you really go in depth it will make you cringe. Only it's not just in food products now, but household items and medicines, etc. It's very sad, sick and scary -- but this is the world we live in. Back to the insects, we breathe them and their fecal matter in more than we are aware. And believe it or not you would be surprised at how many insects you ingest while your sleeping. It's an unpleasant reality, but it's where we are.

It's not really fair to say we shouldnt eat applesauce, because first: you dont know the name of the company. So we all could be eating some "unknown" brand of applesauce which doesnt have maggots in it. Second: Do you realize how many bacteria get in your mouth, just by opening it to yawn or breath???? You body destroys all the bad stuff anyways.

not all of the applesauce have maggets in them!! I eat it all the time. If there is nothing else to give to them then there stuck with it. innocent kids won't ever hate you for giving them applesauce but you could take it to a lab or something and see all the stuff that's in it if it makes you feel better.

How many years ago was that? Things are very tightly controlled these days on the levels of cleanliness and sanitation, maybe many years ago they could careless. But regardless, there are so many creatures that are there anyways, living inside of the fruits and vegetables.

Do you know what the liquid that is on top of the ketchup is?........ yep, you guessed it, BUG GUTS!!! Just mix it up, you'll never taste it. Besides, I can trust it, my husband works at a factory that makes fruit slices with dips, and he is the one who cleans the machines, they hire people to do that. I am sure that there are very few worms that get in anymore.

Eat up, it hasn't killed anyone yet!

Do you know how many insects you've eaten in your life? You just can't think too hard about that stuff. There's probably maggots in cheez doodles too -- surely the applesauce is a better source of maggots.

I was raised on applesauce, ate it at just about every meal, poured it right out of the jar. I'm 39 and my kids eat it every night. We even make our 3 year old eat all her other food first before she gets her applesauce or else that's all she'll eat!! We aren't dead yet either!

You would be amazed at the acceptables levels of "contaminants" in food, especially tomato juice. Most people are not actually allergic to chocolate, it is the chocolate weevil they are eating that causes the problem . We object to eating insects, but relish prawns. Why? Biologically, they are no further apart than chickens and beef. It's just a cultural thing.

im sure that the applesauce company is not the only place that this is happening. what are we supposed to do, not eat anything unless we plant it or raise it ourselves? just because that one company does that, it doesnt mean that they all do. i eat applesauce, ive eaten it my whole life, im alive, im healthy, so i dont see why i shouldnt give it to my daughter.
