The people who moved in to the condo above ours are unbelievably loud. They pound around all day and night, and they refuse to answer the door when we've tried to tell them to be quiet. I don't know how to approach it. THeir footsteps are so heavy it keeps us up at night... it's like they pound around all day and night, and I can't exactly tell them to walk softer. How would you handle this short of moving? We own our condos so there is no apt. manager or anything.

Hey I know the feeling. I live in a duplex with common walls. I've tried complaining to the owner of their unit but it hasn't helped alot.

In your condo you should have a strata association like the other poster said. There are condo by-laws about how other condo owners are supposed to conduct themselves ie. not disturb the reasonable enjoyment of other owners, etc. There are fines for contravention of these by-laws. You should approach the association and make a complaint.

Other posters said to call the police. The police don't deal with internal matters, since the entire condo building is considered one property. City by-laws don't really apply to individual condo units in a building, because it is considered all one property. This is why there are separate strata laws to deal with this sort of thing. I should know because I have called the city noise enforcement department where I live and they said they couldn't help me for these reasons.

I had some noisy neighbors. I live in a neighborhood without an HOA and they were renting the house. I started calling the police cause they were having band rehearsal at all hours of the night. Yelling into a microphone etc. After 18 calls to the police I finally filed a Police report. We went to court. The guy whose name was on the lease had to pay $500+ dollars and had to move out! Thank God. My husband and I lived like that for almost 8 months. I couldn't take it anymore. So I know what you are going through. The best thing to do is ask them a few times to keep it down, if that doesn't work......call the cops.

Sell your condo and buy the one above them so you can pound on their heads all day?
Seriously -- although the above suggestion is tempting, it isn't very practical. How do their neighbors on either side feel? If they are making the amount of racket that you say, surely they are disturbing other people as well. Most communities have anti-noise bylaws, and while these are mainly concerned with running power mowers and leaf blowers etc. some of them pertain to household noise as well. If their other neighbors are bothered as well, the group of you can file a complaint and perhaps get something done.
It's difficult when there is no apt. manager to turn to in a situation of this kind.

Loud neighbors are a #1 pet peeve of mine. I guess it is because it shows the ultimate in selfishness and disrespect.

1. talk to the people about the situation
try to resolve it peacefully as adults.

2. give them a warning and kindly tell them that if it continues you may have to call the police. (disturbing the peace)

3. call the police (document the times you talked to them, how often it occurs, ect)

4. i would try to get their phone# so you can all them when it is late at night rather than having to walk up to their apt.

Good Luck!

It is sometimes hard when you are in the same building, depending on the insulation, sometimes sound can be amplified and they may not realize that their noise is disturbing you.

Short of moving, I really don't know what can be done to remedy the situation. We once lived in a four-plex apartment, and the guy in the downstairs apartment played loud country music at all hours and had very loud "sessions" with his girlfriend, who kept screaming "Oh God," all the time. So we started calling him God, hoping he'd get the drift. He just gave us puzzled looks, but it was pretty funny, and helped us to make light of an annoying situation.

you're able to desire to enable it pass What they're doing is typical, they're only talking with one yet another what's incorrect with talking in a hall? what's incorrect with the dad telling the female approximately dealing with a canines? in the event that they have been having wild, noisy events, then you certainly've some thing to whinge approximately, yet talking in a hall is typical and not undesirable behaviour

EXECUTE THEM!!!

hehe... just kidding ^_~

um, talk to them? in a non-defensive manner utilizing I statments in place of You statments..

Also, It is nearly a given that in apartments with upper levels, sound will travel, and might even be magnified with how the building is constructed.. I'd rather live downstairs though really, so nobody fusses at me for walking around in my own apartment.. ^_^

Just keep on calling the police and ignore them when you see them. Let the police take care of it. Keep good records of the times and things you hear. Don't start a war by going over and confronting them.

i am sure there is an association, and there are rules. have the association enforce them, has the flooring in the unit above been refloored? soundproofing in place? you can always bake them goodies or send them a basket of fruit pleading your case. good luck
