Theres a high school dance coming up on this friday. I really want to ask this girl to go with me, but I always get way too nervous when it comes to stuff like that. I always wimp out at the last second. How do I overcome this fear?

Please don't tell me to suck it up, or be a man or that stuff. It doesn't help... at all.

honestly im a pretty shy girl if i don't know a guy very well. I'll never be first to go up to a guy and just start a conversation or anything. So you need to just think that you are both only people, if you don't just do it, then you will wish you had, especially on friday or if someone asks during the time you were debating whether to ask or not. Don't be nervous! If she is a sweet girl and she's nice, then bring up the dance to her. Ask if she's going. Then ask if she has a date yet.... then ask her!!
You can do it!!

hi there. I agree, this has nothing to do with sucking it up. it is difficult, because young men are expected to assert themselves...as a woman, wish it were different. but nothing ventured nothing gained right? think of the worst case scenario...she may say no, and rejection feels lousy. but the good news is that it passes, and builds us up as well. if it is easier, have you considered testing the waters with this girl, befriending her, giving her extra attention? see how receptive she is, make your move more gingerly when you are more comfortable. if you don't ask her, you will likely regret it and wish you had right? sometimes taking the risk builds confidence, even if she doesnt tell you what you would like to hear. take baby steps if it helps. the nerves are valid i think, you're human, some people hide it better than others. be genuine, most girls are not used to that. trust me...good luck! hope this helps a little!

Yah, I can understand that "be a man" thing can be annoying, after all men have feelings and fears too. Maybe think of how it would feel when she accepts, if you're interested in her think of your desirable qualities, and if you have trouble saying it write it down and give her the note (but try to wait close by while she reads it).

buy a card or send a note and ask her if she would like to go to the dance with you.
