The floor under a bathtub is usually built quite strongly to withstand the weight of the water. However, if the floor is old and bathtub is full enough, it is sometimes possible for it to collapse. Water beds can also be a problem, especially as they are placed on standard, weak floor rather than specially built floor.

Because of the vertical ribs within the floor, which I think are called the joists. The joists have a pretty big vertical length, letting the force of any weight above the floor spread out over their large area, relieving pressure on the floor.

Floor joists are designed to hold lots more weight than that. Ever see a picture of a bunch of people gathered around a piano? No problem for the floor.
